Re: bumping minimum PHP in php-mf2, this is good to hear, wasn't aware of that: https://github.com/microformats/php-mf2/pull/264#issuecomment-2381926915

gRegor: In my opinion it removes some requirements to keep older compatibility but I wouldn't drop capability for an older version without reason
#
gRegor
PHP84+ support is the reason. Previous discussion: https://chat.indieweb.org/microformats/2024-09-17#t1726612803772000

[preview] [gRegor] php-mf2 got several pull requests, one of which suggests updating minimum PHP to 7.1. I know in the past we've kept to a lower minimum version due to WordPress support, but wondering if we should revisit that now.

I'm leaning towards making a final release with some parsing updates that runs on php56, then future releases are php72+
#
GWG
I'm fine with that
#
[mattl]
https://www.php.net/supported-versions.php suggests 7.2 is unsupported too. Curious how many can’t run later 7.x releases of PHP…
#
gRegor
Well, WordPress PHP support is still a part of our reasoning, so if WP is supporting 7.2 we probably should with php-mf2 as well.
#
gRegor
php-mf2 in at least a couple of our WP plugins
#
gRegor
A 7.2 minimum would probably last us a pretty long time
#

I’m still running 5.x on some things. I need to look at fixing that.
#
gRegor
That struggle is real :)

[tantek]
GWG, what version does ClassicPress support, the pre-Gutenberg fork?
#
GWG
[tantek]: The latest version is tracking wp6.2 I think, so definitely 7. Let me look
#
[mattl]
PHP version 7.4 for ClassicPress
#
GWG
Thank you

GWG
I was looking it up
