Is there a microformat for providing a link to a transcript file that relates to an audio file?

[tantek]
Not AFAIK capjamesg. Are you writing a consuming code use case in your Reader?
#
[capjamesg]
No. It was more that RSS has an affordance for transcript files and Apple Podcasts displays the transcript if one is available. I wondered if there was a microformats equivalent too.
#
[capjamesg]
Although it would be nice if I could write a h-feed as have it convert into a valid podcast feed.

[tantek]
converting to podcast RSS with an affordance for transcript files is a great consuming code use-case
#
[tantek]
backing up one step though, have you figured out how to post audio posts in an h-feed such that e.g. Granary can convert them to podcast RSS?
#
[tantek]
(before adding transcripts 🙂 )
#
[capjamesg]
Not yet! I don’t know if Granary has support for podcasts.
#
[capjamesg]
Although I did just add u-audio to h-entries on the podcast website.
#
[tantek]
yeah there's been some interesting things on Wikipedia with microformats
#
jkingweb
Interesting that it seems to be mostly or entirely classic microformats. It goes to show that a backcompat parser implementation still has significant value.

gRegor attempted to update the main microformats wikipedia article for mf2 but had to deal with resistance from a particular editor, so I'd expect other related update efforts are similarly blocked
#
gRegor
Ah yeah, they seemed to really want to treat mf2 as a different thing than mf1
#
[tantek]
which is not the role a NPOV Wikipedia editor should play
#
gRegor
That's why https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microformat is still mf1 focused in examples, with mf2 only a subsection

granary generally supports audio, yes, including RSS and metadata like duration and size
#
[tantek]
[snarfed] do you know what input formats it accepts to turn into podcast RSS?
#
[snarfed]
let's see. mf2, AS1, AS2 at least
#
gRegor
Also don't recommend listening. Ancient and silly XD
#
gRegor
Don't listen and subscribe, to borrow from [artlung] :)
#
[artlung]
_"Don't Like, Don't Subscribe" ..._ but yes. 🙂
#
gRegor
remix :)
#
[artlung]
If you liked listening, sure, listen again. If not, that's cool too.
#
[tantek]
capjamesg, have you tested your podcast h-feed with Granary?
#
[capjamesg]
gRegor it looks like that feed has the `itunes:` prefixes which is cool!
#
[capjamesg]
[snarfed] Can I specify a cover image in my h-feed?
#
[capjamesg]
Apple Podcasts expects an `itunes:image` that acts as your “cover art”.
#
[capjamesg]
No worries if you don’t know off the top of your head; I’ll need to play around with this more.
#
[snarfed]
[capjamesg] I don't think it has that yet
#
[snarfed]
oh actually it does
#
[capjamesg]
Oh wow! I think that’s all I’ll need to make a valid feed.

How does Granary identify the duration of the audio file per gRegor’s example above?
#
[capjamesg]
Do I need to add special markup for this or does Granary handle it?
#
gRegor
p-length: `<data class="p-length" value="PT1H7M58S">1h 7m 58s</data>`
#
[capjamesg]
Ah, perfect. I already have that data so it’s good I can use it myself.
#
[capjamesg]
gRegor++ [snarfed]++ thank you so much!
#
Loqi
gRegor has 6 karma in this channel over the last year (130 in all channels)
#
[capjamesg]
I’ll need to blog about this at some point 😄
#
gRegor
excited to see more podcasts use it!
#
[snarfed]
nice! definitely keep us posted
