cwebber2 sandro: I made this because there was a big mastodon thread on mastodon a while ago... someone made a search engine that gathered stuff from public timelines and allowed search, which many of us found useful, but some people were extremely upset about. The person who brought it up took it down again because they didn't want to upset people. In the github thread you see me going back and forth with one of these people to deal with it.
