jaywink Gargron: in the Diaspora world, we have the relay system that allows any node in the network to publish content there and any node to subscribe - it's kind of an extra thing on top of normal federation. But what I really would love would be some kind of separate index servers which nodes could do lookups against, providing more content to discover. Two ideas :)
