# dansup I would love to help organize an online web conference for ActivityPub. It could even be comprised of pre-recorded video that gets released on a certain day.
# dansup That way it could be free, and accessible for anyone
# dansup cc aaronpk Chocobozzz Gargron kaniini puckipedia ^^
# dansup I have already started on this, I hope you are interested in contributing!
# dansup aaronpk: No worries, I am taking inspiration from the IndieWeb meetups and I know you are busy :)
# dansup aaronpk: my inspiration is also partially from laravels online conf called laracon online. https://laracon.net/

# martijnvdven “have been several virtual Homebrew Website Club meetups, (a very different format than a conference) but might be worth talking with the organizers” - one such organiser is right here o/
# martijnvdven Though I am not sure I have a lot to add on the subject
# martijnvdven We have noticed at the virtual HWC that it is very important to have someone stop ongoing conversations to let others speak. Great example: take a moment to welcome people who come in and give them a chance to say something, else they will sit silently and drop out again being too polite to just interject in ongoing conversation.
# martijnvdven The most important thing I have learned so far is the importance of moderation. In a physical space, it is easy to signal that you want to speak up. Social cues etc.
# martijnvdven Always happy to discuss more if people have questions; and of course everyone is welcome to join a virtual homebrew website club! Feel free to reach out :)

# Bat`O hi everyone! I'm fairly new to ActivityPub, but has someone considered using it for targeted file sharing (for instance: Alice share her holiday pictures or work document to Bob and Charlie) ?
# Bat`O it would be neat to be able to share big files with built-in encryption and without having to rely on dropbox and all
# jaywink[m] 1) activitypub doesn't specify encryption (other than https) 2) *krhm* nextcloud *krhm* ;)
# jaywink[m] AP would more be suited to handle the notifications as activities, but actual file transfer no
# jaywink[m] nextcloud for example does use AP to notify some activity related information between other nextcloud instances

# saranix nextcloud doesn't actually support AP yet? also it's bloated. Also it has no real concept of federated identity. Also, there's hubzilla, which is complete, and supports AP, and has been around for years, and doesn't suck, and isn't bloated, and doesn't have any the other million and one flaws of nextcloud. #justsayin :-)
# technomancy they seem like ... completely different things?
# saranix sort of. Nextcloud only does files. hubzilla is a whole CMS/wiki/files/etc platform
# saranix Bat`O's question was about the use case of sharing private work files, hubzilla can do this
# technomancy ah gotcha
# saranix quick clarification: hubzilla is slightly bloated. But not nextcloud/ruby/mr. Creosote bloated (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr_Creosote)
# technomancy all software is bloated to someone
# saranix no, not all
# technomancy nine nines of software =)
# saranix "all software is bloated" is like "there is no such thing as a weightloss 'diet' that works". Truely, it doesn't have to be that bad, but the fact that we live in a world filled with 99.9999999% mediocrity, failure, and scams, would have someone believing the situation is hopeless
# technomancy "all software is bloated to someone" just means "different people value different features"
# saranix that is not how I am using the word bloat
# saranix I mean objectively
# technomancy I find it fascinating that you think there is an objective definition.
# saranix the same features can be accomplished with a tenth the code and a tenth the convolution. Don't blame the features.
# saranix There was a question a couple days back before the w3 irc server started having seizures about webfinger and follow your nose-- I think webfinger could be made follow your nose if a property is added to the actor object with a pointer to the webfinger service url...
# saranix that way it can be place somewhere other than root/.well-known/ and still function
