I'm thinking about adding an activity to follow a note/article. Has someone already implemented something like this?
#

Background: When I get a reshared note, then I possibly want to receive all following discussions in this thread as well. But since I'm most likely not following the original author, I won't get all comments.

Makes total sense and will likely do the same for socialhome. WHat I'm wondering though who to send the follow as. Might make sense to have a "system account" for this. Just thinking of public content, for limited scope content obviously all actors separately.

This could be done similar to how it is done with Diaspora.
#
Cult
looks like a lot of work, requests and possible issues while a link to the original post on the original instance might do the same, no ?
#

How should the original instance (and the other participants in the thread) should know that you want to participate in the thread?
#
heluecht[m]
I don't see any cause for a serious issue there. In fact we are doing exactly this thing in the Diaspora protocol for years.

And when a system doesn't understand that message, then it will simply drop it, I think.
#
Cult
i mean, when you display an answer from a followed user to a thread in the timeline, add a link to the remote thread
#
Cult
maybe I don't understand the issue, but how the original instance knows that you want to get all answers to a post ?
#
heluecht[m]
I will send a "Follow Note" message to all known participants of that thread. So then they will know that I'm interested in further updates. Then they will add my profile to the list of receivers, just like they would do, when I had commented in the thread.
#
heluecht[m]
Adding a link to a remote thread would only enable us to see what had been discussed somewhere else, but we weren't be able to answer to this.
#
Cult
ok
#
Cult
but you won't see previous answer to the note, right ?
#
heluecht[m]
This would depend upon the implementation. On Diaspora the system does send all previous posts as well. This could be done here as well.
#
heluecht[m]
Of course this has to be thought over.
#
Cult
might become ugly at some point, but I get the Follow Note for future answers
#
Cult
i am curious about the Follow Note request you're sending
#
Cult
if you could paste the json somewhere when this is done
#
heluecht[m]
It's just like the follow action that is send when you want to follow a person, but in this case the object link is a link to an note/article object.
#
heluecht[m]
I'm thinking about writing a blog post where I'm explaining how I have done things on Friendica.
#
heluecht[m]
Could possibly be some kind of blueprint for other implementers.
