melody "make it really easy to do bad things so nobody will trust anything" doesn't turn out to be a particularly functional strategy, people will make decisions about what to trust anyway, adding friction to doing manipulative things makes it, well...harder to do them, and makes fewer people interested in going to the effort -- that makes the resourced people doing them anyway relatively more dangerous but shrinks the scale of the problem
