Sorry for being out of the loop, is that discussion forum online by now?
#
rigelk[m]
lain_soykaf (IRC): it is, but I haven't seen any announce about it. There is a thread listing things to do before announcing on it, so that is probably still on hold.

rigelk[m]: where is it again?

Is there an easy way I can file a bug?

cwebber2: hey, in a bout of insomnia the other night, I might have kind of accidently designed a technique for making blockchain transactions cheap enough that miners will generally just allow them to be included for free... Might be useful for being able to transfer stamps...
#
cjd_
Not just transactions of a particular crypto, but in fact any "thing" which you identify as having value and having a key that owns it... you can transfer it to someone else using this system
#
cwebber2
cjd_: hm?
#
cjd_
I thought this idea might be useful to stamps
#
cwebber2
cjd_: "for free" sounds like "frictionless", which makes it sound like the traditional merkle tree problem of "it'll get filled with spam", but maybe you have an alternative approach
#
cjd_
2 solutions: 1. it's pretty scalable 2. "for free" is kind of a trick, it's cheap enough that it's reasonable to think about miners offering it for free to Legitimate Usage

I'm writing up a little pad about it now

But like the reason why it stinks to make a token on top of ethereum is because you have to pay ether to do anything with it - whereas most tiny cost things on the internet are operated as public services... so I got to thinking "why shouldn't a blockchain offer a public service?"

but I'm going to add some json-ld library anyway, so that might just resolve things
#
cjslep[m]
OK, glad to hear jaywink !

cwebber2
cjd_: well I'm curious

cwebber2
cjd_: personlly, I've thought of doing stamps on top of something like digicash

The problem with a lot of this pre-bitcoin stuff is that if you have enough central control for the server to be able to steal someone's money, you're going into dangerous territory WRT financial regulation
#

You risk ending up classified as a custodian
#

I think wowgold and such do ok because lawyers and also they are explicitly saying you're not supposed to exchange it, it's just that people do (darn them)

i read over that, something about it doesn't feel right -- can't put my finger on it yet, but i have that itchy feeling i tend to get when i know i've made a mistake in the design of something -- it's possible the hole is in my understanding and not in your design, but i can't shake the feeling that something feels wrong
