hello #social. i'm trying to seed this around, Grant Negotiation & Authorization Protocol. from a different circle than social & ocap, but GNAP seems to have strong ocap adjacent capabilities, getting into the nitty gritty of what permissions are authorized by a grant holder. i think we will be strongly shaped by this protocol, going forwrds. https://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/gnap/about/

atm i am not involved in this work (at some point i would like to begin impls), but i'm really hoping social & ocap folk see the connection & importance & can help expand the perception of this working group, & make sure some of our adjacent concerns get attention

not sure where else i might go to try & get these worlds to interact some; if folks have ideas for other places to communicate this please: i'm all ears

there's a great website with really cool interactive documentation for a predecessor pre-IETF specification, XYZ, https://oauth.xyz/ . shows a lot of range & flexibility of this work.

fwiw this work is being done by many people of the OAuth group, and is sort of being considered an evolution of OAuth, potentially may end up being called OAuth 3

at the moment there are two different proposals on the table, one is documented at oauth.xyz, the other shares more in common with oauth 2, at least terminology-wise. the group is in the middle of trying to consolidate/reconcile the two different proposals

I am involved in this work, as well as OAuth 2 and OAuth 2.1, and will actually be giving a talk on this at the activitypub conf next week!
