cwebber2 we need an announcement for FRI Social CG so that e.g. Derek can share with more people
#
rhiaro
hey sl007 I don't think I saw any input about a time change, so it can probably be the same time as the most recent one. Perhaps you could make the post on socialhub (since I *think* you know best how to describe the main agenda topic) and announce it?
#
rhiaro
(unless cwebber2 wants to jump in with an alternative, but chris is pretty busy at the moment I think, so if you don't hear back in a short while maybe just go for it)

Did I miss the discussion of moving to Friday meetings anywhere? I'm not able to attend meetings on Friday because of work, but if they're more convenient for the majority of people then I'm okay reading the minutes
#
Loqi
misses the discussion of moving to Friday meetings anywhere too
#
nightpool[m]
hmm, I feel like that regex could use some tweaking
#
rhiaro
ah nightpool[m] good to know.. we had talked about changing the time on Friday, and chris has invited a bunch of other people specifically for the next one so there was some potential for a time change from their responses, but I'm not sure anyone else has said anything concrete yet
#
rhiaro
sl007: let's hold up announcing for a bit longer until cwebber2 can respond and we'll see if we can move it to a day nightpool[m] can make it
#
rhiaro
nightpool[m]: what days are best for you?
#
sl007
It will be hard to sync the 11 people in the thread ;) Problem w. weekend is maybe nlnet / Joost couldn't attend (?)
#
rhiaro
sl007: I have no idea... perhaps you can make the socialhub thread and ask for time/day input from people who are interested? With a deadline.. 24h? (and ping joost directly?)

My feeling is that the EU Law and forming a Lobby w. the NGOs will take at least 1 hour, so why not do 2 meetings? The Law Proposal will be published Dec 15th but without technical debts.

about “… I'd be willing to do another meeting about this next week same time
#
sl007
... looks like joost is saying the same” didn't he say he can do weekdays but not weekends cause family, maybe I remember wrong (?)
#
sl007
EU Law (Joost, Derek, Sebastian, NGOs [e.g. epicenter.works]) then FEP (pukkamustard, CJ) then Link Relations
#
nightpool[m]
yeah, i'm catching up on the minutes today
#
nightpool[m]
One thing I'd like to push back on a little is the idea that the SocialCG can/should focus more on non-technical issues. While I 100% think that these issues are valuable discussions and should be addressed somewhere, i don't think we're a representative enough sample of the current fediverse population, nor are our processes set up in a way to do so effectively.

The decision here is (please discuss further internals w. Chris) that ActivityPub might become a compulsory interoperability in the EU and it is about being prepared. There is also nothing we can do against the law.
#
nightpool[m]
yeah, i'm still only partway through the minutes and am responding to the chunk starting around "we have seen positive examples of people talking about things in a non technical way .. we want to pull those people in"
#
nightpool[m]
talking about and advocating for our standards in non-technical language is obviously a huge priority for any technical working group, but there are other more complicated issues around "building communities" that i'm not sure the SocialCG can effectively address with our current policies / membership
#
nightpool[m]
*can or should
#
nightpool[m]
Okay, finished the meeting minutes. I'm not 100% sure I got everything in them, but it sounds like we haven't quite found what the actionable step is going to be yet? Whether that's an open letter or a community group report or something along those lines

Since the current policies say "is open to everyone", you need to change this then maybe, but I'd be the wrong adresse
#

It is missing context of 2 very long mastodon threads: Derek invited 3 experts, 2 NGOs (epicenter.works/edri), we have the nlnet foundation in (cause it is also about [a lot] more [EU] money for activitypub). Now it is about who is doing what.
#
sl007
The problem w the thread which I started public is someone answered in private and it stayed private cause mastodon
#
sl007
And I am in contact with the 2 MEPs and the Chief Scientific Officer so far. Apart from the pandemic I am still accredited in Brussels and will be there.
#
sl007
So: Still not sure about the day … We had the saturday meeting (6 days before last) but that did not work either, is there a preferred day? Or 2 seperate meetings?
#
sl007
Problem w. socialhub : neither nlnet nor the NGOs have accounts there yet … Maybe mastodon poll?
#
nightpool[m]
I think if Friday works for the professionals and I'm the only one who can't attend, it's probably good enough
#
sl007
nightpool[m] cwebber2 Well, I am proposing to do 2 meetings, 1 FRI 3 UTC (politics) and 1 SAT (tech) …
#
nightpool[m]
well honestly the politics one is the one that's the most interesting to me sl007 !
#
nightpool[m]
maybe given how important it is I'll see if I can take the hour off from work
#
nightpool[m]
but we're pretty jammed busy
