Did the meeting happen an hour or 2 ago?
#
Grishka
it's still happening

#
jarofgreen
Did it start an hour ago?
#
Grishka
yea
#
jarofgreen
Ok. I am in the waiting room for meeting but I’ll just miss it as it probably won’t make sense joining towards the end. I’m going to post on tho ferum about start times - there has been some timezone issues I think.

rhiaro
oh, did nobody take notes? :(
#
Grishka
I got disconnected again, argh
#
Grishka
the mandatory sound test is annoying
#
jarofgreen
I’ve posted the most technical and unapologetic note ever for being late :-) https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/clarification-on-meeting-times-utc-timezone-issues/1690 Not meaning to have a go at anyone who set this up (thanks for your work!) just seeking clarity for future meetings
#
nightpool[m]
my understanding is that the UTC thing was always an oversight
#
nightpool[m]
it doesn't make sense for a meeting's time to change relative to the people participating it in twice a year
#
jarofgreen
I’m not fussed which way it is resolved, as long as it’s clearly resolved one way and all relevant docs updated
#
jarofgreen
UTC does seem the fairer way; defining it by any other timezone seems premumptious. In particular, defining it in London timezone means that we enforce London BST changes on any one else in another country
sl007 joined the channel
#
jarofgreen
In fact, if it was defined in London timezone and someone was in a timezone with a summer time zone change that didn’t match BST start/end dates one, then I think??? they could actually see the time of the event in their local time zone change 4 times over the year, which seems unfair
#
jarofgreen
But I’m happy either way, as long as it’s clear
#
rhiaro
jarofgreen: but everyone loves the timezone voids when US and Europe daylight savings are out of sync
#
jarofgreen
rhiaro: hey if people love the lol’s then fair point, I won’t stand in their way :-)
#
rhiaro
(narrator: nobody loves it.)
#
rhiaro
I'll fix the calendar to UTC. I have now figured out how to do that, which I hadn't last time you mentioned it
#
jarofgreen
So in other words …. tried to turn up for meeting; missed meeting; ended up arguing about UTC/Timezone issues. Actually this might have been the meeting content I’m at home with anyway :-P
#
jarofgreen
Thanks rhiaro

WRT Link type in Activity Vocabulary: Is it in spec to use a URL string instead of a {"type": "Link", ...}?
#
Grishka
TIL that there's an actual Link type
#
mogery
lol. So I guess it's widely accepted.

#
mogery
(Mastodon does it too in it's user/following Collection, for example)
#
Grishka
well, I don't have a Link object, I simply parse links into (java.net.)URI objects
#
Grishka
and I have a LinkOrObject wrapper thing for when something could be either one or the other
#
mogery
might just use the object, since it makes types easier
humanetech joined the channel
#
nightpool[m]
mogery: so, it's a little weird, and honestly I find this one of the more confusing parts of AS2, but effectively—using the URI string does not create a Link object, it just acts as a pointer to the referenced object
#
nightpool[m]
a Link is a special type for if you want to include metadata
#
mogery
ohh.
#
mogery
so if I just want to say "hey i don't have this other instance's user data on me, go check it out yourself"
#
mogery
i should just use an URL string?
#
nightpool[m]
if you're referencing a JSON-LD object, yes
#
mogery
alright, great, ty
#
humanetech
mogery: what project are you working on? I'm editing the AP watchlist right now, and'll add it ( https://git.feneas.org/feneas/fediverse/-/wikis/Watchlist-for-ActivityPub-apps )
#
nightpool[m]
another way to think about it is that the URI string is usually for reference other JSON-LD/AS2 objects, and Links are used for external resources
#
Grishka
yes, a URL is simply a reference
#
nightpool[m]
*referencing
#
humanetech
mogery: thank you

mogery
very WIP :)

mogery: np, the watchlist tracks anything ongoing. It is a staging area before things appear on https://fediverse.party
#
humanetech
mogery: should it be in Microblogging category?
#
mogery
nightpool[m]: yeah, i thought the link was also just that. but now I see that it's more for like, URL attachments for Notes or something.
#
mogery
humanetech: yeah, for now
#
humanetech
mogery: thx, it is added :)

rhiaro - it was like bengo was not there, unfortunately I don't know how to use amazing Zakim and did scribe very slow (clicking buttons only), sorry, but the draft for the notes is in socialhub …

I was not there. I overslept.

mogery About Link object vs. string. It is defined in the Spec. what to use where, the Range anyURI is a string and the Range Link is a Link object …
#
sl007
bengo, no worries! I need a lesson how I could scribe better, although, I always think in 2021 machines should be able to translate voice to text easy … But there should also be more teleporters …

sl007: maybe you can move the Content Negotation to its own - new or existing - topic, and point to it from the SocialCG topic.. otherwise it'll be hard to find, and we get mixed discussions.
#
sl007
ok, tomorrow, forgive me, cause of friends and BVB now (and the cup) ;)

Think grishka Compliance Profiles are essential in this. My as:Offer may be an entirely different thing than your as:Offer .. unless I state that mine complies to e.g. "Ecommerce Basic" or whatever.

interesting how one bot triggers the other one at the end of a meeting
#
Grishka
I'm too used to telegram, where bots are special and are largely unaware of each other's existnece
#
rhiaro
Grishka, well it's just hardcoded strings that they output or respond to, I wouldn't say they are 'aware' of each other
#
rhiaro
.....or are they?
dmitriz, xmpp-social and Grishka joined the channel
#
Grishka
yes, but telegram bots literally don't see each other's messages in a chat so they effectively only ever respond to people
