I have a question for the IndieWeb community: What can we do against Webmention spam, except filter it out, when it fails validation? I receive hundreds of invalid Webmentions a day, and even using a filtering DNS server doesn’t seem to help much. But I also don’t want to... (https://jlelse.blog/micro/2024/07/2024-07-10-hcriz)

I feel a little bad about that post because I have so much respect for Ben, but hopefully it’s not taken _too_ seriously. 🙂 Also, we do need a lot of people working on these kind of platforms.

[manton] You also need to ~get better at~ continue improving how you market http://Micro.blog; no idea how, but some people are especially good at (over) hyping their wares. That said, those are also usually the sort of people I try to avoid… 😅

I can’t remember where I first read it, but there was a Mac (?) software developer who once wrote about making it super easy for (lazy) journalists to write about your product. So, by writing short/medium/long descriptions of your product, provide downloadable images, logos etc. and linking to those from your website.

Then there’s things like inserting yourself into the conversation; have journalists want to come to you for a quote, etc.

And perhaps follow up/prod Ben, with someone has built it!
#
[manton]
Yeah, a lot of developers are really good at having a “press kit” for folks to download. Makes it a lot easier. We need that, can’t hurt.

what is marketing
#

It looks like we don't have a page for "marketing" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "marketing is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek]
that's good guidance [Paul_Robert_Ll], let's see if I can start a stub about it

[tantek]
marketing is, from a positive perspective, the work you can do to make it super easy for others (bloggers, journalists, etc) to write about your site, specific [[posts]], [[projects]], events, [[services]], and even products, by doing things like creating easy to re-use icons for yourself and your site, [[featured]] images for posts, copy pasteable links, logos, and short/medium/long descriptions of your things, and easy to find guides to
