Loqi [@matapacos_uwu] added a cute lil "recent commits" panel to my home page! ^-^ i'm using nextjs, so at build time my home page has a `getStaticProps` function that pulls the five most recent git commits and formats them into JSON, which are then provided to the component.... Loqi [@riverpunk] It's been discussed at length the extent to which Big Tech search engines/indexers are basically garbage at this point. Even using a wrapper like Duckduckgo, which re-arranges the results from a Google + Bing search, the usefulness of these tools is really in decline compared to... Loqi [@andros] «Tildes: the shared Unix computers»
This is not nostalgia for the 90s; it exists today, and it is called a tilde.

[jeremycherfas] The absolutism and purity-signalling offend me, but I honestly cannot be bothered to respond.

Loqi [@timapple] Thing I learned building a link checker for static blogs: a lot of sites block requests coming from GitHub's runners, so a naive checker flags perfectly fine pages as dead. Linkguard marks those as blocked instead, and for links that really are gone it looks up a Wayback copy you... (https://fosstodon.org/@timapple/117474249933810637)

Loqi [@neongod] I never really liked #IndieWeb (with capital I and W), as it always felt riddled with single points of failure. I’m not happy though that my assessment was correct. ... (https://mstdn.social/@neongod/117474253156388529)

offeringofpie All those virtue-signaling posts as well, are not very constructive either

#
offeringofpie That's fair, just read a few small takes that didn't feel written in good faith. Hence the not being constructive.

[social] Reading this as I’m finishing honing a piece about a common frame for understanding software / web / systems development team building from the 90s that was a basic management leadership understanding. I started writing it in 2015 as some organizations I was working with were unfamiliar with it. I set it aside I’ve found it is really missing in most organizations in the last 5+ years. A couple years ago I started writing it
#
[social] but the questions I got when mentoring principal engineers and heads of product was including how does GenAI coding fit.
#
[social] I wanted to write the matrix to get it out and have the GenAI separate. But, at this point (and also writing this for use by an organization training underserved communities and organizations, non-profits, and governments technology and digital product with building. I’ve come close to fully shelving the whole thing over deep willful intent to misunderstand. But, I have a history of just posting things along these lines and

#
[Morgan_M] Its rare that a directly impactful, practical worker at such a level as @ T offers their energies so directly to a group or public facing community, so I have a good chunk of respect for that! unfortunately it does seem to attract flak thats not totally fair too. At any rate, adds to the discourse and understanding
#
[Morgan_M] Ive come to like the new rounder and gradient effect featured Firefox styling , FWIW

[Morgan_M] [artlung] I read more of your posts above, and I find it to be very concise and accurate. I could digress a big wall of words, this topic has impacted my work life and other life a lot
#
[Morgan_M] To be specific, about the LLM thing, and the need to be clear about differences of what it is or used since its so caught up with policy and public life now
#
[Morgan_M] Only in recent months have I fully recovered from how my workplace changed with their introduction
#
[social] Hah
#
[social] That is a good pet peeve. I’m cursed with pet peeve for people using “utilize”.
#
[Morgan_M] Not quite adjacent but the workplace usage of "call out" was one that really irked me often, when just pointing out facts or observing things mainly
#
[social] of terms and acronyms / initialisms.
#
[social] I may have an affinity for corp-lingo. Every organization has their own set of 50 favorites (some are used in the opposite way from other organizations). But, different use of technical terms between developers and engineers, but also engineers in organizations are tribal and have different terms and definitions. Often a first question from me is where is the lexicon? Don’t have one, where is a wiki where I can start a lexicon
#
[Morgan_M] I find some clarity from considering WCAG 3.1.3 regarding this topic, as almost all my workplace interactions for a decade have been remote, and heavy on writing
#
[Morgan_M] I agree that the lingo often is useful for team building and cohesion at times, not all bad
#
[Morgan_M] maybe to an observer bad, sometimes thats almost intentional

[social] It is an “is thing” not good not bad, just is. The wild part is few recognize their terminology is different. I ended up as a comm theory major because the anthropology of it all.
#
[Morgan_M] At work I often put in entries to the glossary type stuff in wikis, and definitely the documenting it part was a thing I liked doing
