what was it?

It was a dark and stormy night https://indieweb.org/It
#
GWG
It was a bad condition
#
GWG
Now I have found another problem

I completed a journal of setting up WordPress for IndieWeb https://indieweb.org/User:Cjwillcock.ca/Starting_with_WordPress,_Take_2
#
GWG
Trying to untangle everything so the endpoints work only locally.

Within Post Kinds there are several template views that do a duration calculation based on start and finish times. Is there a template that actually shows the start and finish times directly? How could this be most easily done?
#
GWG
chrisaldrich: The properties are stored, why?
#
chrisaldrich
I'm curious to actually display the actual start and finish times.
#
chrisaldrich
There are instances for checkins that it would be useful to have a checkin/checkout time.
#
chrisaldrich
I've also been storing data on sleep patterns for a bit and considering starting to display sleep
#
chrisaldrich
i've got a chunck of the sleep part built but think it only makes sense to do the actual times rather than just the duration.
#
GWG
chrisaldrich: Where do you get those?
#
chrisaldrich
I've got the Samsung Health app on my phone that tracks the rough times based on a guess and then I shift them a tad the following day. I'll see if I can export/auto post later, but thought I'd work on the basics of the rest first.
#
GWG
chrisaldrich: I'm in the midst of splitting IndieAuth
#
GWG
But I will see what I can do. There is a known duration issue
#
chrisaldrich
no rush... I'm just pecking around. I'm also working on my twentytwelve fork at the moment too...
#
chrisaldrich
in fact, sleep may be a good IWS project.
#
GWG
chrisaldrich: I can't export mine
#
chrisaldrich
I hadn't tried yet, I take it you have?
#
GWG
chrisaldrich: Different system
#
aaronpk
"Sleep may be a good IWS project" 😂 I'll make sure we have a nap room available
#
GWG
aaronpk: If I disable the ability to change the authorization_endpoint headers in IndieAuth, then that forces the Web Sign In piece to use it as well.
#
aaronpk
How so?
#
GWG
aaronpk: The settings page becomes useless.
#
GWG
I just pushed it.
#
aaronpk
Great! Fewer moving parts and fewer things to explain to users!
#
GWG
I didn't remove it yet
#
GWG
Wanted to get eyes on the code first.
#
GWG
But, basically, web sign-in does discovery
#
GWG
It doesn't have a fallback for when it doesn't find any authorization_endpoint headers right now, except to go to the standard WordPress login.
#
aaronpk
That sounds fine. THis is explicitly to enable pfefferle's use case
#
GWG
aaronpk: I also fixed some hidden issues.
#
GWG
The old version didn't remove an authorization code from the database unless someone tried to retrieve it. The new version destroys it right after it is claimed, and the only UI page in there, the Token Management page, runs a cleanup function just in case every time you load it
#
GWG
Token revokation works a bit better, though the UI page needs a major refresh, but that can be a PR later on
#
GWG
aaronpk: You want to have a quick look?
#
GWG
I hope I was productive this weekend
#
aaronpk
I think I'm gonna have to look tomorrow!
#
aaronpk
that's been a lot of good work so far tho! Looking forward to checking it out
#
GWG
aaronpk: I want this to work
#
GWG
I think, after the discussion, separating the web sign-in and the IndieAuth endpoint makes sense
#
aaronpk
Like separating as different plugins?
#
GWG
aaronpk: Separating the code. Separate plugins may make sense also, but only when it does something when you don't have an IndieAuth server
#
aaronpk
Makes sense
#
GWG
Which means either we need IndieLogin or something else
#
aaronpk
Also it makes sense for the web sign in plugin to have a settings screen so you can choose which indielogin.com-like thing you want it to use. You could host your own copy of it for example
#
GWG
aaronpk: What would a non-indielogin.com-like thing look like?
#
aaronpk
Some other authentication service that has the same api
#
GWG
aaronpk: I'm just wondering out loud. I'm not building it at the moment.

My bad. i was using his WP Term Icons plugin... That uses the dash icons pack. The plugin you mentioned was WP Term Images.

it seems to work for me tho

is this temporary or can we remove the settings?

hey all this protocol I developed to track syndication and what happens when using a variety of tools: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19l28iCNAcMiwL2Tpko0GhiLVAVyl9DPltNS8ZvumwoE/edit#gid=1649079406 Open to feedback as i want it to serve needs of theme developers as well as people who ask questions about the different syndication tools

[jgmac1106] here is a link to a Bridgy Publish reply https://twitter.com/mrkrndvs/status/1006104664612442112?s=20

@mrkrndvs
@daveowhite If it is not recognised formally, then you could always create a badge for it 🤷‍♂️ (https://github.com/mrkrndvs)

can you post a link to yoru note on from your blog?

It has to be grabbing that from your hcard but I would need to dig a little deeper to see how the post is markedup. Promised my son some TMNT time this morning, but thiss is why I want to complete the syndication protocol, it is so hard to tell people what happens when
#
[mrkrndvs]
I have never really grappled with Bridgy Publish tbh, so I want to get that right and then I will tee up some testing
#
[mrkrndvs]
I am in no rush. I just feel guilty I haven't started adding to the doc. Enjoy the TMNT time 👍
#
[stefp]
Are you posting from the Independent Publisher theme and Bridgy?
#
[mrkrndvs]
No GWG's 2016 theme
#
[stefp]
OK. I know the IP theme doesn’t play well with the Bridgy-Publish plugin. I’ve never been able to find a fix.
#
jgmac1106
[mrkndvs] there is never a rush when volunteering. Thank you for the help
#
jgmac1106
It seems most people use other approaches for syndication than Bridgy [stefp]
#
jgmac1106
it is your hcard, if you have that display only homepage that will fix problem
#
jgmac1106
the h-card would need to be embedded in the h-entry and it is in the theme you are using
#
[stefp]
Yes. I don’t do it a lot but currently I’m paying for a Twitter cross-post bot on micro.blog and doing any cross-posting from the Micro.blog app.
#
jgmac1106
that is what I did with Known and Convoy, but oddly I can thread better with Bridgy, but have no experience with micro.blog
#
jgmac1106
Bridgy, WordPress, Twitter..it takes a few days for all the webmentions come in but seems to be closest record I could keep
#
[stefp]
It’s not ideal but I’ll manually add the Twitter syndication link in Wordpress for the Bridgy service to pull in any replies.
#
jgmac1106
[mrkndvs] remove the hcard widget from your sidebar widget and you should be all set, let the 2016-indieweb put it in the h-entry for you
#
jgmac1106
but that makes no sense, what if you don’t use the static page…either way if you fool around with the widget you shoudl be able to sort that
#
[mrkrndvs]
I know where to look now, thanks [jgmac1106]
#
sknebel
or fix your hcard widget to be an h-card
#
sknebel
it's not, so everything in there gets added to the h-entry
[eddie] joined the channel
#
jgmac1106
thx [sknebel]. [mrkndvs] Have you ever added an hcard manually on your page using either the editor for the footer or header or using a footer and header plugin? The hcard widget is included in the IndieWeb plugin. It draws information from your profile page.
#
jgmac1106
[mrkndvs] must be getting late your time in Aussie but can hop on video call and fool around with the plugin a bit sometime
#
