# petermolnar searching for wordpress plugins for things; when did all plugins become so annoyingly "unique" designed, aggressive, come pay for pro nagging?

# [jgmac1106] pro nagging is the major monetary approach. Otherwise only customer support you get it, "Turn off all other plugins except ours. Turn them on one by one. When you find the one that breaks ours, delete it."

# [jgmac1106] @theferridge looking at your them it doesn't have any mf2 properties, this will make things difficult...but I also do not see a ton of the old microformats that break many themes can you install this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-uf2/ and this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/indieweb-post-kinds/, publish a note and we can try again?
# [jgmac1106] it is a bandaid...your best bet is to switch themes....understand that maybe too much to ask
# [jgmac1106] but looking at your theme it may be a good bandaid
# TheFerridge I already have both of them installed
# TheFerridge They work for webmentions somewhat
# [jgmac1106] ahhh I missed the h-entry on the body class
# TheFerridge it is specifically backfeed from Twitter that I'd like to implement and that doesn't seem to click at all properly.
# TheFerridge I have tried to make it so that tweets in response to my posts show up in the comment section of the post
# [jgmac1106] yeah I am looking for what could be cause...stumbling around as I diagnose, not the best mechaninc here is your ntoe parsed: http://pin13.net/mf2/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.chapsterhood.com%2F2019%2F03%2F06%2Fbla-bla-bla%2F
# [jgmac1106] okay perfect a good mechanic
# [jgmac1106] I just always thought improper mf2 in a theme messes up the twitter backfeed and how it displays with semantic linkback
# TheFerridge I deleted some of the test tweets at the end of last night's attempts
# TheFerridge hold on
# [jgmac1106] is the one I am looking at but the tweet is gone, TheFerridge can you syndicate another note to Twitter, and then I will reply and sknebel can look?
# TheFerridge just what I was doing! :)
# TheFerridge gonna go on Brid.gy to hit that refresh button
# [jgmac1106] that would show up as a mention, and it does, that is not a reply. Mentions just have the facepile
# [jgmac1106] and nvm the mention is from Mastodon
# TheFerridge huh it did show up as a comment on the site this time
# [jgmac1106] but grab the link to the tweet and in your post kind plugin send a reply to the tweet url, that will look like a comment
# [jgmac1106] yes there is a difference between a mention and a reply in this context
# [jgmac1106] mine shows up just fine
# TheFerridge now I am just sitting here wondering why it didn't work last night...
# [jgmac1106] do you have askimet on? Did you check your spam? I always end up in my own spam folder
# TheFerridge no askimet yet, I'm doing testing after all ;P
# TheFerridge akismet*
# [jgmac1106] so no comment moderation at all? nothing in pending or spam?
# TheFerridge nope
# [jgmac1106] well sounds like something is fixed BTW I sent you a reply and a mention so you can tell the difference: https://www.chapsterhood.com/2019/03/06/bla-bla-bla/
# TheFerridge "but grab the link to the tweet and in your post kind plugin send a reply to the tweet url, that will look like a comment" do you mean link to my tweet or your tweet?
# [jgmac1106] it would work either using my permalink or the link to tweet, if your goal is threading the twitter conversation while syndicating then use the link to the tweet in your reply
# [jgmac1106] ahhh I will note that on the plugin page...Bet a lot of people test out webmentions tweeting themselves
# sknebel so assuming I'm reading the docs correctly there it makes sense that https://twitter.com/TheChapsterhood/status/1103439056531267584 didn't trigger a mention
# TheFerridge so THAT's why
# [jgmac1106] TheFerridge++
# [jgmac1106] thanks for helping us help you, will be able to note this for when other people try
# TheFerridge this was brilliant, thanks!
# [jgmac1106] okay won't add to wiki
# [jgmac1106] wait lemme test it on my site
# TheFerridge while we're at it
# TheFerridge that makes sense
# [jgmac1106] yep and I do not not get a mention from myself but will get a reply
# TheFerridge I want to test that, because last night I did not get the reply back on the website
# [jgmac1106] let me verify, pretty sure I do as I thread my tweets and webmentions
# [jgmac1106] .aaahhhh but I am always doing that from my wesbite not twitter
# [jgmac1106] once you have webmentions and a POSSE flow there reeallyisnt a reason to post on twitter
# [jgmac1106] I bet TheFerridge if you post a note, then you grab either the permalink to the note or to the tweet and reply from your website it will show as a reply on Twitter and on your post
# [jgmac1106] I need to get back to grading....by that I mean start
# TheFerridge oh I see. Well, this is an imperfect system, but it's a start :)
# TheFerridge Good luck with your grading and thank to both of you!
# [jgmac1106] yes....or just switch to a community developed theme...you could recreate your stylesheet in a similar fashion
# TheFerridge it works well enough for now. I've spent long enough on getting the website running as it is, so I won't do that now. But maybe in the future
# [jgmac1106] I understand that. i rolled with an almost working websit for like five years bc I was so theme invested
# [jgmac1106] eventually wanted the IndieWeb stuff more so went with gwg's fork and a page builder: https://archive.jgregorymcverry.com
# TheFerridge I wonder... why isn't this stuff more widely adopted? Is it just because it's really early days, or is there something else?
# [jgmac1106] Yes and No, No and Yes, I asked the Owl. He told me the answer was three
# [jgmac1106] it starts one domain at a time, go tell a friend...deliberate decision that building for oneself and community more resilient than building for the masses
# [jgmac1106] though turnkey commercial platforms like micro.blog exist, WP, Known, Jekyll, Ghost, ton of options now...just keep moving forward to a web built on /principles
[kevinmarks], [schmarty], jeremych_, [cleverdevil], gRegorLove and TheFerridge joined the channel
# TheFerridge interesting. It seems my reply to your tweet doesn't show up as a reply on the website, but as a comment of its own. That might be a problem in the future
