!tell [chrisaldrich] that's the one I've installed but setup failed
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
[Rose]
And while I like the idea of being my own instance, people are already following me elsewhere and migrating them is hard

my kingdom for a theme that has mad post-kind support :(

!tell [chrisaldrich] I worked around said setup failure! Downloaded 3.2.6, did the auth, then updated. Thank you to the random person with the same problem in the WP support forum (I posted on the GitHub issues page)

GWG
Morning
#
Loqi
good morning!
#
GWG
Still hitting a wall on design of the new webmentions
#
[jgmac1106]
gwg what does a major rewrite of this magnitude get you?
#
[jgmac1106]
should we wait and scope out the project and see if you can get a team on it between Berlin and Summit...that sounds like a ton of work for one person
#
GWG
jgmac1106, it isn't the first time I have done this
#
GWG
Trying to merge Webmentions and Semantic Linkbacks in a good way
#
GWG
So, I started with the migration code, but realized that was a big PR
#
GWG
So, I parked that and switched to upgrading the code that retrieves the source content for processing
#
GWG
The idea being that building the integrated design and then layering on the types of mentions would work better
#
GWG
The webmention spec mentions microformats, but the plugin has no microformats processing
#
GWG
It's all in Semantic Linkbacks
#
GWG
Semantic Linkbacks separates the handler from the typing
#
GWG
You could in theory build a handler for Semantic Linkbacks that used schema or json-ld or such
#
GWG
Allowing for that is still a good thing, even though no one is jumping to build it
#
GWG
But we have a robust microformats implementation that can work more smoothly
#
GWG
So, that means I am starting with redoing the source retrieval code. I already found a bug I must have introduced at some point
#
GWG
I have rewritten this code before
#
GWG
So, the retrieval code does a head request to check content type and response code. It fails automatically if the source is a media file...but it doesn't, as the spec now suggests, use per media type rules
#
GWG
So I want to switch the verification methodology to be more robust as part of this first phase
#
GWG
Which allows, as microformats parsing will be done at that stage now, due integration, changes the code
#
GWG
Thanks to something I did in WordPress core, pingbacks passes the remote source content both raw and processed along..we added that to webmentions as well. But it can be passing the parsed version
#
GWG
I can ramble about this for a long time
#
GWG
I will probably get the design if I keep thinking

what is the name of the old links manager plugin [chrisaldrich] uses?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "name of the old links manager plugin [chrisaldrich] uses" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "name of the old links manager plugin [chrisaldrich] uses is ____", a sentence describing the term)

Hi GWG - I took another pass at Yarns' auth issues, and I'm still stumped. Could you take a look when you have some time? Notes on my efforts here: https://github.com/jackjamieson2/yarns-microsub-server/issues/59
