GWG: oops, updated to post-kinds head instead of 3.2.6, getting errors
#
GWG
dougbeal: Yes, you would.
#
GWG
Which errors?
#
GWG
Interesting
#
GWG
Will work on that
#
dougbeal
Haven't updated to 5.2.1, not sure what version I'm on
#
dougbeal
Also trying to reply to issue-post with Quill w/screen shots...
#
dougbeal
never tried before, get Something Went Wrong, but no error message. Never tried it before so...
#
dougbeal
Photos were uploaded, anyway
#
GWG
You might want to go back to stable.
#
dougbeal
yeah, went back to 3.2.6
#
GWG
I'm doing a lot of fixes at the moment. You found a bug in the dev version.
#

Could it be choking on Quill html formatting? [15-Jun-2019 01:55:51 UTC] PHP Warning: DOMDocument::loadHTML(): Unexpected end tag : p in Entity, line: 1 in /var/www/html/wp-content/plugins/indieweb-post-kinds/includes/parse-this/includes/class-mf2-post.php on line 637

dougbeal: The new version I'm working on improves on that
#

GWG: Google photos displays some basic exif, flickr does the same, but you can expand to see all exif
#
GWG
dougbeal: WordPress auto stores exif

Good morning Indieweb

Since I am not sure if this is an issue with the Post Kinds or Webmention plugin, I thought I'd ask here first before filing an issue on Github...

I use iOS Shortcuts to like posts with a one click automation. It posts on my blog and everything works OK. But the resulting posts sometimes shows a lot of information from the article I liked. For instance on https://diggingthedigital.com/3739-2/ you see the liked article is copied in full in my post. I think this is done through Post Kinds? Does that plugin get the content from the liked article? Or is it what an incoming webmention giv

I think a good feature to have is something like a max characters in the extracted summary? Especially when a site doesn't support mf2 so you rely on regular metadata.
#
[frank]
I'm open to any other solution to display posts like that in a more condensed way in an automated fashion
#
GWG
It's Post Kinds
#
GWG
That's a rarity though

Story of my life @GWG....
#
GWG
The author put all of that in the description
#
GWG
I should do a sanity check

GWG: are you still supporting PHP 5.5 for wordpress stuff?
[tantek] and [kevinmarks786] joined the channel
#
GWG
aaronpk, 5.4 and above until there is a reason to bump
#
GWG
Why?
#
aaronpk
i'm doing some upgrades on xray
#
aaronpk
the tests aren't running in php5.5 on travis-ci anymore and I think i'm just gonna give up on that version
#
GWG
No WordPress plugin bundles xray

WordPress gave up on 5.5, i say you should to

o
#
GWG
Until I use a 5.6 feature..
#
GWG
I likely will give up eventually. But jumping to 5.4 first
#
GWG
Then may jump further
#
GWG
7.6% of people on WordPress are still running 5.4
#
GWG
I just abandoned the 4.4% who are running 5.3
#
[Michael_Beckwit
add about 6% for those below it
#
GWG
And the 1.8% on 5.2
#
[Michael_Beckwit
they’re potentially ditching 5.6 by end of year
#
GWG
Let WordPress encourage a drop and I'll continue to bump
#
GWG
I would love to jump straight to 7
#
[Michael_Beckwit
they have the facilities to allow it now
#
GWG
Even they haven't figured out how to change the code
#
[Michael_Beckwit
you can specify your minimum PHP version
#
GWG
It is still 5.2 compatible
#
GWG
I know
#
GWG
I specify 5.4
#
GWG
So I will lap behind the project but get to the same place
#
[Michael_Beckwit
and you could specify 7 if you wanted, and people shouldn’t be able to upgrade if they don’t meet
#
GWG
I have to think about the users. Not just me
#
GWG
Yes, but we're a community
#
[Michael_Beckwit
just sayin 🙂
#
GWG
Why should I leave that many people behind?
#
GWG
I need to go slowly
#
[Michael_Beckwit
how many people are we talkin?
#
GWG
Bumped to 5.4
#
GWG
Wait to see
#
GWG
Bump to 5.6
#
GWG
I'm not talking about the decade WordPress took on the matter
#
GWG
Besides... what features in 5.6 and above do I need right now?
#
GWG
I'm not rewriting the code
#
[Michael_Beckwit
couldn’t tell ya
#
[Michael_Beckwit
i don’t even know what plugin we’re talking about 😄
#
GWG
Any Indieweb plugin
#
[Michael_Beckwit
gotcha
#
GWG
I want to return to upgrading webmentions
#
[Michael_Beckwit
it’s internal more than user-facing, but making the code more readable and manageable is potential reason
#
GWG
I have been doing that for a while
#
GWG
Do you have any thoughts on Indieweb for WordPress
#
[Michael_Beckwit
not at the moment, but i did contribute once already to it
#
GWG
I am working on the Post Kinds plugin right now
#
GWG
It needs more visual improvement
