petermolnar microformats waaaay predates json-ld, and are still valid even for google friendly markup. json-ld brings loads of problems, starting with the must use schema.org vocabulary to google's snowlaky structured data testing tool to the very fact that it either duplicates your content or your site is javascript-only.
