When I switch in my WordPress admin from the classic editor to the Gutenberg editor I get this screen for a few seconds, filled with notices from indieweb plugins. https://dsc.cloud/triggi/Schermafbeelding-2020-09-16-om-12.13.15.png After a few seconds the Gutenberg editor loads and everything works fine as far as I can see. But is this something that needs fixing on the plugin side or is there something I can do in my WordPress

environment?

[pfefferle]
oh shit… when was this change made? I will fix my plugins asap!
#
[pfefferle]
[dshanske] already proposed changes for the webmention plugin!

wordpress 5.5 change in rest api I think. [frank] you might want to disable `WP_DEBUG` - especially if that is a live site
#
GWG
I have to get some PRs approved for that
#
[frank]
[grantcodes] wp_debug is set to false already in wp-config. Any other place this can be a setting?
#
[grantcodes]
🤔 not too sure, maybe in your hosting settings?

updated nodeinfo and opensearch plugin so far

[pfefferle]: While I have you, what is the next piece for Webmention?
#
[pfefferle]
I try to work on merging the fix for the tag and the master and rework the local-avatar mr
#
[pfefferle]
perhaps you can have a look at the “find the representative object” code
#
GWG
[pfefferle]: I need to find something to test that against. I'll pull some sites.
#
GWG
[pfefferle]: I forget, what was the problem?
#
[pfefferle]
I started some basic tests, you can extend!
#
[pfefferle]
you started to implement from the parse-this perspective
#
[pfefferle]
finding the main object, but not the object, that links to the target
#
[pfefferle]
and I tried to change that
#
[pfefferle]
but not sure if my changes work properly
#
[pfefferle]
I also started with some tests, but not all are working for now
#
[pfefferle]
perhaps we should have a look why
#
[pfefferle]
if the test data is broken
#
GWG
[pfefferle]: I'll have a look. Can you merge the fixes I put in a PR as they cause error notices?
#
[pfefferle]
thats what I meant above
#
[pfefferle]
I would love to merge them to master and the 4x branch to be able to release a new 4x version
#
GWG
[pfefferle]: Maybe we set up a trunk/main branch for 4x and rename master for 5 to develop

hello
#
[pfefferle]
[dshanske] maybe better
#
[pfefferle]
or at least use 4x as main branch and rename the master to 5x

Just launched a wordpress site using the instructions here however when I try to download a theme it asks for FTP details. Can anyone help?
#
GWG
[pfefferle]: I will start with that.
#
[pfefferle]
do you have the right to do so?
#
GWG
bwgreen: Which here? What instructions are you using?
#
bwgreen
from the main screen "Getting Started" on this site
#
GWG
bwgreen: That is usually a permissions issue in your WordPress configuration
#
bwgreen
i have tried changing that but get the message "We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things: #1) Respect the privacy of others. #2) Think before you type. #3) With great power comes great responsibility. [sudo] password for shepherd:"
#
bwgreen
i do not have the password for Shepherd
#
[pfefferle]
[dshanske] I started renaming the branches
#
[pfefferle]
this broke some MRs 😞

[pfefferle]: I figured it might. But I can work on that.
#
[pfefferle]
I merged your fixes
#
[pfefferle]
perhaps you can have a look at the 4.0.4 mr
#
[pfefferle]
then I can release the fixed version
#
Loqi
[pfefferle] #293 version bump

bwgreen, I'm not sure how far you got with your install/set up. If you're not comfortable with some of the command line installation pieces, we did a walk through of some GUI-based installation a few weeks ago. https://indieweb.org/2020/Pop-ups/GettingStartedWithWordPress has a link to the video/audio recording.

Hi [chrisaldrich] just started listening to this and it assumes you already have wordpress installed?
#
[chrisaldrich]
Yes, it does bwgreen. There are dozens of tutorials all over the web that will get you past that portion.
#
[chrisaldrich]
Some (most?) web hosts will have one click installs that do all the work for you.
#
[chrisaldrich]
What level of technical expertise do you currently have for setting up a website on a server? Have you done it before?
#
[chrisaldrich]
This article may give you some of the steps too, though I'm sure you can find youtube tutorials and walk throughs: https://wordpress.org/support/article/how-to-install-wordpress/
#
[chrisaldrich]
Most hosting companies will also have their own documentation as well.
