cambridgeport90, from the look of it smashballoon seems to be using the APIs for a few social sites and pulling the data from the silo into your website. Sadly I'm almost sure this means that if Instagram disappeared, the plugin would cease to work and your site wouldn't have any access to that content anymore. As a result, I don't think that anyone here would recommend it as a robust solution.

!tell GWG I was just reading https://diggingthedigital.com/15584-2/ and wondering, is that not what Parse This does? Check mf2 and then fallback to things like OpenGraph when it is not available?

Zegnat: It falls back on json-ld then ogp and outputs mf2 derived from them, so you are correct
