[tw2113_Slack_] given my experience with Algolia in 2022 so far, I am hopeful we can make that Algolia plugin a solid focus

[tw2113_Slack_] I've enjoyed Algolia more than I have ElasticSearch, for sure

[asuh] I believe my best answer, with that in mind, is images. The gallery is good, not great, lots to be desired. But more importantly, WordPress should absolutely be fully supporting WebP and even AVIF pretty quickly. The web badly needs this kind of good compression.

[asuh] I think I saw something about this as well, but it’s just support. I’d love to see more activity to allow authors/admins to convert from jpg/png/gif to webp and avif. I know that’s a huge request, and can cause server issues (unless it’s outsourced to AWS or something) but with >40% of the sites using the oldest image formats, so many of which are not compressed or hardly compressed well, this is something Automattic has

[asuh] For good reason, too. It’s a powerful tool, one of my earliest regulars to install on new installations

[tw2113_Slack_] kind of a mix of trying to find an unmet niche or an area that has tools, but those tools generally "suck" and you think "i could do way better than these!"

[tw2113_Slack_] a few years back we had an idea that we named "InstaGo" which was meant to be a static URL that you could set in Instagram and whatnot, and within your WP install, change where the URL redirects to

[tw2113_Slack_] but then...linktree and derivatives happened, one link to go see ALL your links
#
[asuh] I keep thinking about an idea I saw where my domain’s URL structure mirrors the corresponding social media URL. I really enjoy the idea of being able to replace the domain name with my personal site, keeping the rest of the structure and you get the same content

[asuh] For example, if I post a note on my site and syndicate it to Twitter, we all know the format of Tweet URLs.

[asuh] On these specific posts on my site, I’d say to almost delay the published status of the post until Twitter gets and publishes its URL, which can then be mirrored back to my domain. So you can thus replace twitter.com with myurl.com, whatever that is

[asuh] One other idea would be archiving. I don’t know what tools exist to crawl through my social media profiles to get all my personal data to be able to import into a personal site. I should look into this, but last I remember there wasn’t much.
