[snarfed]: Does Bridgy Publish recognize featured, or just photo when publishing?
#
[snarfed]
GWG it should include featured. feel free to test!

The reason I don't want featured is that my theme displays the image as a hero above the post if it is set.
#
GWG
jeremycherfas: What do you expect?
#
jeremycherfas
I do not expect an image to be shown twice unless I place it twice.
#
jeremycherfas
To my way of thinking, u-photo-featured, or whatever it is, is metadata for mf2 consumers, it should have no impact on my layout.
#
GWG
jeremycherfas: The code, as noted in my recent blog post, exports mf2 directly to Bridgy from WordPress properties.
#
jeremycherfas
I must have missed the link to the post. Will look now.
#
jeremycherfas
Replied, as requested.
#
GWG
jeremycherfas: The plugin tries to generate the mf2 whether you have it or not., whereas the old version looked at the final HTML.
#
jeremycherfas
So, tell me what mf2 Bridgy uses and I will ensure that my theme offers that.
#
GWG
That's a question for [snarfed].
#
GWG
But, let's address this another way.
#
jeremycherfas
!tell snarfed I am happy to have Bridgy be more opinionated the the Syndication Links plugin, but where can I discover its opinions?
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
GWG
For post X(supply the post), what should it look like on Mastodon in your opinion?
#
GWG
The opinions are coming from me trying to send the right info to Bridgy right now
#
jeremycherfas
It should have a title, a photo if there is one (featured if present, first if not) and then text up to approx. 400 characters or the first <--more--> tag
#
GWG
Do you have a Mastodon post that looks like that?
#
GWG
As an example?
#
jeremycherfas
It is great that you can fall back to trying to send the right info, but if I knew what the right infor was, I could ensure that it was sent so your plugin would not have to do anything extra, at least for me.
#
jeremycherfas
No, because I am crafting them by hand.
#
GWG
jeremycherfas: Can I see a hand-crafted one is what I'm asking?
#
jeremycherfas
But that does not relate to a post on the website.
#
GWG
So, let's go to image. If something is a featured image, I intend to add that support. But, you noted the first image...which means I need to identify images in content...which is a harder proposition.
#
jeremycherfas
https://indieweb.social/@etp/111007037638773399 points back to a post on the website, but has no image. I could have the same image as the previous one (the podcast cover) if I set that as featured, but then it would display twice. And it could have the first ~400 chars
#
GWG
We have that problem in mf2 processing as well.
#
GWG
This is a difficult problem to design.
#
jeremycherfas
OK. Is featured then double posting my theme doing that
#
GWG
But, I'll start with 2 things and move from there. May require a few iterations
#
jeremycherfas
Looking at the mf2, the theme inserts almost nothing. That should be something I can address.
#
jeremycherfas
It is a Child of Independent Publisher, and if I knew what Beridgy were looking for specifically, I could try to tinker with the templates.
#
GWG
Well, you could trty for a u-photo, I suppose. But I think I need to set that up
#
GWG
I'm not sure if it is looking for it inside content

#
jeremycherfas
It isn't even offering e-content at the moment, or e-summary
#
GWG
But a u-photo would indicate the photo was the subject of the post.
#
GWG
jeremycherfas: That's me, not [snarfed] though.
#
GWG
I'm not delivering full e-content to him.
#
jeremycherfas
If you're looking at HTML to get e-content, you're never going to create e-summary.
#
GWG
I'm looking at post_content.
