hi Indieweb/wordpress folks! I’m a longtime wordpress user (and former wordpress developer) trying to get rolling with Indieweb + bridgy (to crosspost social notes to Mastodon & Bluesky), but so far both my efforts (10-12 hours each time) have sent me back to Jetpack social.

I would love to give an indieweb setup another try but I’m worried about losing myself down a rabbit hole of tech troubleshooting.
#

Can I ask what a typical getting-started time commitment looks like for people who’ve done this via self-hosted wordpress?
#
[Alexandra_Samu]
For context on where I’m stuck: So far I can’t even get authorization headers past wpengine (my host) despite their efforts to fix my permissions setup….and the kind David Shankse was surprised that nginx (which is what my install runs on) has posed any obstacles to authorization at all.

I am wondering if I should spin up a separate subdomain on another host, but that feels like it kind of defeats the purpose of getting my whole online life under my own roof.

Hi and welcome [Alexandra_Samu]!

Share your domain and an example post that you wanted bridged? Would be helpful to understand how and what posts you want to bridge. As to your question about time commitment I can't say (SORRY!) ... Though I have done the steps on https://indiewebify.me for my own identify and for markup on my posts but don't bridge that content in any automated way.

If you are happy and wish to proceed with Gutenberg and blocks, fine. You might also consider switching now to ClassicPress which may make life easier.

If you have no hosting issues, setting everything up initially can be quick

Right now it *looks* like I should be able to crosspost to Bluesky (my bridgy auth worked there) but that post didn’t go live; maybe there is a polling lag?
#
[Alexandra_Samu]
And I’ve utterly failed to auth with mastodon, but I think maybe it’s because I previously setup with bridgy fed and now bridgy won’t let me use regular bridgy instead? I’ll ping them directly

[preview] I’m back to experimenting with #activitypub #fediverse #indieweb based posting, using WordPress as my hub. So yeah, this is basically a “hello, world” for testing purposes.

↩️ I don’t think I can switch my theme because it would break too many parts of my site, so I am going to have to stick with Divi and see if I can make some version of Notes work within that context. But if that is a dealbreaker I should probably set aside this project for a time when I can consider a total theme overhaul.

↩️ that is so kind of you! I guess the mystery is why I *am* having hosting issues, given that (a) I’m on nginx and (b) my host has applied the following nginx variation to my site:

```if ($http_authorization ~ "^(.*)"){
