kbs my personal benchmark to come to grips with the longevity/usefulness of a particular data formats (plain text) has been to see what it takes to automatically generate epubs from some of the oldest gutenberg.org texts. Start from http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/1 and go upwards, looking at the plain text versions :)
