kylewm tantek: sorry, I think it's just me being an engineery person and wanting things to be explicit rather than inferred. i know that it comes down to authoring pain vs. consuming pain, and agree with you that authoring pain is more important to reduce (because the harder it is to get right, the less likely people will do it)
