MozillaNYC looks like regardless of whether you configure an A record or a CNAME with your DNS provider, if you're using github pages to serve your domain, you have to create a "CNAME" text file at the root of your githubname.github.io repo: https://help.github.com/articles/adding-a-cname-file-to-your-repository/
