Hi GWG!

also, I manage to fix my issue by just commenting out known's exception handler

#
GWG
I never tested it
#

oh! I'm not sure I saw it?
#
acegiak
can you link me?
#
GWG
acegiak: I'm playing with webmentions in a test repository and backporting changes to the existing plugins... https://github.com/dshanske/webmentions-and-more
#
acegiak
oh neat!
#
acegiak
I'll have a closer look once I'm finished at work
#
GWG
acegiak: Basically, I had 80 commits past the last commit pfefferle made, as he was busy with life. And he encouraged me to keep working, but he saw the scope of what I did and asked me to break it into smaller pieces.
#
GWG
So, I moved it over to this repo, where I can play with ideas to my hearts content. And I'm going to send him a commit a day.
#
acegiak
I saw you posting heaps of commits in that repo and wondered what it was
#
acegiak
cause I occasionally just check in on your github page to see what you've been up to :P
#
GWG
acegiak: The plugin does not work to the new webmention specification
#
acegiak
there's always work to do I guess
#
GWG
acegiak: When it was written, the specification didn't exist.
#
GWG
Watch the Webmentions and More repository. I refactored everything and am still working on the refactoring. It includes the Semantic Linkbacks plugin as well. But designed as independent pieces within the same plugin.
#
acegiak
sounds super neat!
#
GWG
acegiak: I even spent some time changing ?webmention=endpoint to /webmention
#
acegiak
oh that's nice
#
acegiak
do you have plans to make it handle person tags?
#
acegiak
on my site I treat them as webmentions on my about-me page
#
GWG
acegiak: I want to figure out a better way to do homepage mentions, so that would address that.
#
GWG
But, my hope is to help push the webmention code so much that it could be inside WordPress Core someday.
#
acegiak
sounds awesome
#
GWG
Also, by having it in a repository, I can use it on my site.

#
kylewm
hehe oh, completely forgot
#
techlifeweb
for it to come full circle I need to include the twitter link in semantic links (at least I think that is how it works)
#
GWG
Semantic Linkbacks in WordPress is a plugin that enhances comments.
#
GWG
Or are you talking about Syndication Links? The plugin that displays the twitter link?
#
techlifeweb
yes, sorry Syndication Links is right
#

Syndication Links should pull the link back from Bridgy.

#

Ah, ok. Maybe it is working and I didn't know it.
#
techlifeweb
I'll do some more testing.
#
GWG
If not, I will be looking at it again soon.
#
kylewm
GWG: did you see the problems with chris's wp theme we were discussing on github this morning? e-content wrapping too much stuff, syndication links and date and stuff
#
GWG
kylewm: Which github conversation was that?
#
GWG
kylewm: I know about the problem before that.
#
GWG
It is a common design issue.
#
kylewm
k, that's fine then. you don't need to see the specific conversation
#
GWG
I came up with a solution. It is a bit hacky.
#
GWG
Basically, WordPress has a filter around the content. Many plugins insert things under or above by filtering it.
#
GWG
My solution was to have my theme add e-content to the content filter at a high priority.
#
techlifeweb
For Bridgy I'm doing some selective stuff in my template using p-bridgy-[SILO]-content https://brid.gy/about#silo-content and basing it on the post type chosen

techlifeweb, wasn't an option when I wrote the plugin. Might revisit.

GWG it's not only that it's filtered; when you use the built-in wordpress solutions for eg. replacing content, it triggers half of the world for action; I ended up replacing content with direct db calls when I wrote my fill-content by photo IPTC

WordPress-users, a question: since I still believe, the domain name itself is a weak link in the larger indieweb ecosystem (you're renting it, and it can be taken away), I was thinking to serve my site from a .onion as well, but apparently, this is harder to set up with WordPress as I expected. Not sure if mediawiki stuff or just typos
#
aaronpk
looks like new mediawiki doesn't allow img tags
#
tantek
aaronpk: it's a setting
#
tantek
or might require you upgrading some plugins?
#
aaronpk
hm no, that's not it... it looks like it's the same problem as on irc-people
#
aaronpk
templates are only expanding one deep

tantek: Does this capture what we talked about? http://indiewebcamp.com/Webmention-brainstorming#storage
#

There's some more of that on http://iwc.tunnlr.xyz/2015/Cambridge (looks like same basic "sparkline" templates as on /irc-people)

irc logs are handled outside the wiki so that's fine

aaronpk: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgMaxTemplateDepth default is 40, but maybe it's missing entirely since we had such an old version

Images in templates are working: http://iwc.tunnlr.xyz/Template:t

hm $wgMaxTemplateDepth didn't fix irc-people

aaronpk: Is #if enabled?
#
aaronpk
i thought #if was part of parser functions
#

shaners: I think that's how the wiki currently behaves

(obvs it could be better)

More Ben Roberts template funkiness at http://iwc.tunnlr.xyz/h-feed -- other people's templates look fine.

event_name templates not working on http://iwc.tunnlr.xyz/events
#
[shaners]
colintedford: you’re right
#
gRegorLove
Hope there's a setting and not some major template-parsing change between versions...
#
aaronpk
hooboy
#
gRegorLove
That's the HWC template -- mostly working, but not showing the event_name parameter for some reason.
#
gRegorLove
Er, one-day-event template
frzn joined the channel
#
gRegorLove
On the plus side, #if *is* working in that template, reflected on /events
#
gRegorLove
Common thing between that and the sparklines is template code inside an <a href>
#
aaronpk
yeah i'm pretty sure it's only parsing templates one level deep or something
#
gRegorLove
Template:one-day-event isn't including other templates, afaik
#
gRegorLove
And Template:irc user is working except for the stuff inside the <a href>
#
tantek
shaners, https://indiewebcamp.com/Webmention-brainstorming#storage looks good to me - thanks for capturing this

#
aaronpk
gRegorLove: yep i installed that one
#
aaronpk
oh i see... it's not parsing it because it's in an <a> tag
#
aaronpk
because that's parsed by AnchorHandler and probably doesn't tie into the template hooks

#
Loqi
gRegorLove has 67 karma
#
aaronpk
yeah i think it's all because of the AnchorHandler not diving into the content of the <a> tag and parsing it
#
gRegorLove
Agreed. Weirdly not finding much when I try to google on that issue, though. Seems it would be somewhat common
#
gRegorLove
Hm. AnchorHandler says "By default, it simply passes through the text within the <a>...</a> tags."
#
aaronpk
yeah that's bad. it needs to recurse and parse the text inside
#
gRegorLove
But /irc-people isn't showing the <a href> in source at all, so maybe it's conflicting with some other extension, or core
#
@m_ott
I just updated the #webmention plugin for @craftcms: You can now view and 🗑 delete Webmentions in the Control Panel. https://github.com/matthiasott/webmention/tree/master/webmention
