what are the cool kidds using for photo galleries these days?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "cool kidds using for photo galleries these days" yet. Would you like to create it?
#
KevinMarks_
We've been pondering that today
#
KevinMarks_
What is an album?
#
Loqi
An album is another name for a collection of photos or songs https://indieweb.org/album
#
GWG
tantek: Have you noticed anyone putting h-entry on the body element?
#
tantek
GWG, pretty sure (some) W3C specs
#
GWG
Can an h-entry be too broad?
#
tantek
I don't understand the question
#
tantek
can <body> be too broad?
#
GWG
I made an assumption when I joined the community based on an observation, and I'm reevaluating said observation in light of snarfed's comment.
#
tantek
reading
#
wagle
KevinMarks_: for me, here, its a display of photos from both sides of my family, of old pictures that I dont know which belong to which side
#
tantek
GWG, sounds like bad WordPress markup. It's perfectly reasonable to markup the entire body as h-entry
#
tantek
if you put u-photo on every photo, then you're kind of saying, hey every photo is part of this post
#
GWG
Even if it is within an h-card?
#
tantek
which I see snarfed just said
#
wagle
so people add comments as to who's who, and I get photos off to someone on the appropriate side of the family
#
tantek
no inside an h-card is fine if it's the photo of the person for the h-card
#
tantek
but in that case, bridgy won't treat it as a photo of the h-entry
#
GWG
Yes. I see the followup. Just wondering about the broader question
#
tantek
what's the difference to you between <body> and h-entry?
#
tantek
maybe this is an #indieweb-dev discussion
#
KevinMarks_
So your use case is person tagging by a group?
#
wagle
photos are jumbled in two large boxes.. each one is individually unknown
#
wagle
photo tagging is done by each living relative that's interested
#
wagle
KevinMarks_: someone suggested https://github.com/electerious/Lychee and I'm looking into it

I think you can add a key to your account and add it when creating a new droplet
#

i reinstalled to keep the same ip address
#
tantek
what is a droplet?
#
Loqi
Droplet is the cute name DigitalOcean uses for its virtual private server instances https://indieweb.org/Droplet

Re article vs album: isn't it both if it has an explicit name, content, and multiple photos?
#
[rickc]
You could present the same content as an article, or just pull the photos and show as an album
#
tantek
rickc, while that sounds good abstractly, in practice it rarely maps due to all the specifics of the discussion we had, e.g. once the text as prose resembles a narrative across the photos, then the post is more of an article than an album.
#
tantek
if you do find a real world example that you think could easily present multiple ways and be ambiguous as such, definitely share the link!

Has anyone had issues with http://indiewebify.me/validate-rel-me/? I've spun up a new site to write some documentation and have rel-me on the site & twitter, but it's saying it "doesn’t link back". Yet, I'm able to use IndieAuth to log into the Wiki...
#
aaronpk
yeah, can't remember what is wrong but someone else had that happen the other day
#
aaronpk
oh it was because twitter is doing user agent sniffing on the t.co redirect
#
aaronpk
and not actually returning an http redirect for browsers (and the agent that indiewebify uses)
#
ChrisAldrich
I thought I'd seen something in the logs, but hadn't heard if it was fixed.
#
ChrisAldrich
I figured it may have been linked to all the recent changes lately and thought I'd report the bug.
#
aaronpk
indiewebify hasn't had any updates in a while actually

the last deploy command, dpl.3, failed
#
snarfed
click on dpl.3 to expand it
#
snarfed
doesn't show why though
#
snarfed
actually not even clear that dpl.3 itself failed
#
gRegorLove
"Updating service [default].../Deployment failed." when you expand it.
#
aaronpk
might need to upgrade stuff
#
aaronpk
so much for low-maintenance deploys
#
gRegorLove
Maybe "The `gcloud preview app` command group is deprecated; please use the `gcloud app` commands instead."
#
aaronpk
i shoulda just made it autodeploy to my normal server
#
aaronpk
i have a couple other repos that do that and it's super simple

I agree
