tantekanyway I added some context to the criticism of Mastodon.social in that regard (people pitching it on twitter as an alternative to join - the site, rather than the software)

KartikPrabhuaaronpk: thinking more about pre-mention (yes I am making up a name because everyone is) here is an idea; 1. micropub client pre-fetches the webmention endpoint of the post being replied to 2. As the poster is typing, the webmention client sends a POST about "someone is typing" 3. the webmention endpoint or other server code then uses "realtime tech" of some sort to update that in the browser ?
KartikPrabhudoes anyone have a UI for @-mentioning people while posting? For example FB pulls up a list (ordered in some priority according to people in the conversation) to select. In FB you can pick the first name or lastname; but possibly one could pick a nickname (?)

miklbcurrent discussion is whether to extend the core pingback plugin or have a separate WM plugin. I'm advocating for extending pingback and use that as fall back.
gRegorLoveA really frustrating UX thing for me on FB: If it's a photo post, it defaults to the "theater" UI where the photo is big and the comments are off the side. Doesn't work well when the comments become lengthy (and are really more of the focus).
KartikPrabhui think gRegorLove wants the comment discussion to be more emphasised. But for majority of photos/images I have seen posted on FB the comments are not interesting at all
