aaronpk's karma is due to the fact that whatever indieweb idea you have aaron had done it 2-3years before you and has it documented
#
jeremycherfas
Zegnat: Yes, that’s right. The import is very broken though, and I have no idea why. I just stopped after very few posts. I may try again, but I’m worried about creating massive duplicates of the few that it does import. And there’s no easy way to clean up that I can see.

[superfeedr] "The continuing saga of marking up status updates in @WithKnown" by Jeremy Cherfas on 2017-07-09 http://stream.jeremycherfas.net/2017/the-continuing-saga-of-marking-up-status-updates-in-withknown
#
Zegnat
jeremycherfas, I just read that ^^^ what do you mean by the last sentence? Adding “u-in-reply-to by hand”?
#
jeremycherfas
Manually, in the html
#
jeremycherfas
It’s a Post, not a Reply status update
#
Zegnat
Oh, interesting. Known sees those as two separate things?
#
Zegnat
From a parsing standpoint, it is fine to do the manual way you have done there. That parses as a valid reply :)
#
jeremycherfas
That wah chris’s point
#
petermolnar
jeremycherfas while it is true that I only described the high level approach, the code I used is here: https://github.com/petermolnar/nasg/blob/master/pesos.py - unfortunately I can't decouple it well enough from the rest of the static generator, so I decided not to recommend it yet
#
petermolnar
btw, even though it's time consuming, I higly recommend to go through all the hoarded content for anyone, sometimes you find incredible stuff you've forgotten about

re https://chat.indieweb.org/2017-07-09/1499589669255000 no OwnYourGram does not, it leaves that to Bridgy
#
Loqi
[sebsel] does OwnYourGram PESOS likes?
#
aaronpk
however OwnYourSwarm does, because Swarm has a great API and bridgy doesn't support Swarm yet :)
#
sebsel
oh, no I meant the other way around
#
sebsel
PESOS, not backfeed.
#
sebsel
If I like something on Instagram, do I get a likepost?
#
sebsel
I guess it's still no, but I'm interested in that :)
#
aaronpk
still no but that would be interesting indeed
#
sebsel
Because I do like stuff easier on the silo itself.
#
aaronpk
is there even a way on instagram to see the things you've liked?
#
sebsel
There is. users/self/media/liked out of my head. I looked it up after I asked.
#
aaronpk
i can't find anywhere in the app that shows that
#
aaronpk
also i can't use the actual API
#
sebsel
Oh, okay!
#
sebsel
There is a view, if you go to your profile, there is a gear-icon for a menu, and that one has an option 'Posts you like' (or something like that, I'm on Dutch)
#
sebsel
But I think that's a private view, no real public page-per-user

jeremycherfas, just read about the clammr sitedeath on your site. That data export wrangling is atrocious!

#
jeremycherfas
Zegnat: I certainly will not be bothering. I tried Clammr three or four times and in the end decided it was completely useless for my purposes. Also, the duration limit on a piece was way too short.

Still waiting for really good ways to share bits of audio. I know HTML5 makes it possible, but that doesn’t mean it is easy. :)
#
Zegnat
what is audio?
#
Loqi
audio is a sound recording indieweb post that is spoken or otherwise created by the author of a site https://indieweb.org/Audio
#
Zegnat
Hmm, wasn’t there a micropub client for audio?
#
Zegnat
audio << [[Screech]], a simple app for posting audio content to your site
#
Loqi
ok, I added "[[Screech]], a simple app for posting audio content to your site" to the "See Also" section of /audio
#
jeremycherfas
Cool. I’ll take a look and see if it meets my needs.

aaronpk: hi aaron - the docs for webmention.io talk about xmpp notifications - is that user-configurable, or is it only pertinent to self-hosted variant?

is there an mf2 property for the author of something you are replying to/quoting?
#
sebsel
u-in-reply-to > h-cite > p-author > h-card ?
#
[miklb]
yep, I’m seeing that now. Thanks. Looks like the one of the indieweb WP plugins marks up the author card with p-name & h-card already.
#
aaronpk
dgold: I don't actually run the xmpp client on webmention.io, but someone added that for their self hosted version

an interesting thing happened today: I asked a set designer friend where here portfolio is nowadays and she told me, quite proudly, that she has her own website now
#

she's certainly gen4

which got me thinking: are personal site viewed as a privilege?
#

In some circles, definitely
#

Also, pride in having set-up their own websites

I was out and about today and I had a thought... is there any kind of "bookmark" h-card concept?
#
[eddie]
Basically I was downtown and was checking in to swarm where I went but saw some places I wanted to "remember to visit in the future"
#
[eddie]
Like a "bookmark-of" but of an h-card not an h-entry?
#
GWG
Eddie, follow maybe or tag
#
KartikPrabhu
[eddie]: there is no precedent for "bookmark-of" for a h-card but that seems fine for bookmarking places and people
#
[miklb]
is a bookmark a “read later” or a “I read this and want to save it for reference.”
#
[eddie]
For me bookmark is a read later
#
[eddie]
But that's a valid question ?
#
KartikPrabhu
[miklb]: for both are bookmarks
#
[miklb]
what is a bookmark?
#
Loqi
A bookmark (or linkblog) is a post that is primarily comprised of a URL, often title text from that URL, sometimes optional text describing, tagging, or quoting from its contents https://indieweb.org/bookmark
#
[miklb]
doesn’t seem to have a strong definition there either way.
#
[miklb]
I guess I personally wouldn’t store “read later” on my site.
#
[miklb]
but I do like the idea of having a “places to visit” list on my personal site ?
pl_ joined the channel
#
[eddie]
miklb: yeah, I thought it works for small one off things but could also be given tags for trips, so you could plan places for a trip
#
aaronpk
I've been wanting to do that as well, i have a few lists on foursquare that i use
#
[eddie]
I'm basically envisioning a Micropub app that would allow you to search places (maybe via Foursquare API) and bookmark an h-card similar to the OwnYourSwarm Micropub posts. In fact, that could also enable checkins outside of Swarm. So you could search and a place and either "Bookmark or Checkin". Add optional tags, etc.
#
[eddie]
Idk if that matches Foursquares terms or not. I'll have to investigate
