sebboh so I see that owning your own domain is considered a first step. Personally, I would say that owning your own *namespace* is what is important. So example.com/~yourname would be sufficent. Some may argue that you don't "own" your public_html directory, but by that metric, it may be that you don't "own" your domain, either: your registrar does.
