does anyone else show like "featured" articles on their home page?

I feel like the blog posts I write quickly get buried and are hard to find, especially since I don't have a view of them that's easy to scan
#
aaronpk
my https://aaronparecki.com/articles page shows the full contents so it's a lot of scrolling to find old ones
#
dgold
i see more people starting to use that concept, aaronpk
#
aaronpk
on my old wiki version of my site my whole front page was just featured articles
#
dgold
e.g. https://mattgemmell.com -> click 'Blog' and you'll see featured articles/start here or somesuch
#
sknebel
I've seen a few people that had a seperate section/stream for those, yes
#
aaronpk
and i'm not even thinking just "latest", but highlighting particular ones
#
sknebel
you have this intro text about what you do on your homepage, might be neat to have cards next to that or something which "teaser" each topic?
#
Zegnat
What is pinned post?
#
Loqi
pin or pinning is a feature that allows the author to choose a post to put at the top of their profile (or homepage) which is then called a pinned or sticky post https://indieweb.org/pinned_post
#
Zegnat
Isn’t it a bit like that?
#
sknebel
(I've been mulling a few ideas like that myself, but I don't post enough to warrant it yet)
#
aaronpk
I have a longer version of that content on https://aaronparecki.com/projects/

#

but I have a few popular blog posts that always get linked to, and some of them are super old, was thinking it might be nice to surface those somehow
#
sknebel
Doesn't the "traditional blog" often have a sidebar with "popular posts"? although manual curation might be better than that, and not sure how to best fit it in a layout like yours
#
aaronpk
yeah I dropped the whole sidebar part of my design, so i'm not sure how to do something like that

aaronpk I kind do. I separate my articles from notes and show 3 most recent with image above my timeline
#
aaronpk
oh yeah that's nice
#

though I have a test that came in as an article that I’m still showing. oops

Is it worth supporting App Cache for my website’s editor, as the primary way I’d write posts would be on my iPhone. Mobile Safari doesn’t support Service Workers and I often have little to no signal
#
ancarda
I’ve only heard bad things about App Cache, so I’m not sure how much of a pain it is to work with

I use https://github.com/GoogleChromeLabs/sw-precache for offline caching files, much more complex than appcache though.

re: offline, i wrote a custom serviceworker https://github.com/myfreeweb/sweetroll/blob/master/sweetroll-fe/assets/sw.js mostly based on mozilla's cookbook https://serviceworke.rs which feels lighter than sw-precache/sw-toolbox
