hi. i can't really find a suitable place on the wiki to save this link, but think it's relevant for discussion (re: gen2) - maybe somebody has an idea where to put it? https://www.poynter.org/news/after-watching-gothamist-and-dnainfo-disappear-journalist-built-tool-help-others-save-their

My half baked "twitter" feed, generated with golang + OPML file heh https://www.irccloud.com/pastebin/LuEcZ0EL/feeds.html
#
sgreger
savemy.news is neither PESOS nor POSSE, but the underlying use case is similar to indieweb/gen2

#
Zegnat
sgreger, that looks mostly like a bookmarking tool that also pings all the public online archives
#
sgreger
zegnat: indeed. the only difference being that the core idea behind the concept is to not bookmark other people's work (which i assume is the common use case for bookmarks) but "to archive your own work as a journalist" before site deaths take them down
#
Zegnat
It is interesting how they depend 100% on third-party archiving services though. I wonder if that really is effective in the long run.
#
sgreger
i believe the indieweb approach (own your content in the first place) is the more robust approach. but it is an interesting reference case for others identifying the same needs, and what they come up with

@ChrisAldrich hi, looking at how to POSSE bookmark to twitter and found your site at http://indieweb.org . What service you use? Bridgy?

@sgreger I saw that last night and saved it to read later, thinking I might add it to /journalists, which I believe exists.

It looks like we don't have a page for "journalism" yet. Would you like to create it?

KartikPrabhu
what is indieweb for journalism
#
Loqi
Indieweb for Journalism is the application of Indieweb principles to one's personal site with a particular emphasis on use cases for journalists, photographers, editors, related bloggers and platforms which are publishing their work https://indieweb.org/Indieweb_for_Journalism
#
KartikPrabhu
[jeremycherfas]: ^^
#
sgreger
KartikPrabhu: ah, that page led me to read about PASTA - savemy.news is basically that, isn't it
#
sgreger
[jeremycherfas]: great, that looks like a good place to archive that
#
KartikPrabhu
what is PASTA?
#
Loqi
PASTA is an acronym/abbreviation for Publish Anywhere, Save To (private) Archive, the practice of automatically saving a copy of whatever you post on (social media) silos to someplace else under your own control, like a private directory on your own server, or a local folder on your laptop that is less vulnerable to site-death https://indieweb.org/PASTA
#
KartikPrabhu
sgreger: yeah that seems to be it
#
sgreger
what was the shortcut again to ask loqi to add that link to the wiki page? ;)

I don't know what to do about assertiveness versus hedging. If people have tips please share. Do I encourage women stop apologizing? Do I tell men not to take a position on issues without hedging or offering a qualifier?
#
[jgmac1106]
Also makes me think the problem starts in K12. The new Common Core curriculum stresses argumentation and being the "most right" Is it our K12 writing curriculum that builds in these discourse patterns?

If you are introducing them into the space, you can model good behaviour for them, and encourage those who behave well and warn those who don't.

kevinmarks at first glance it appears urbit also falls into the category of, can't actually do their own simple plain text notes so they're instead posting plain text notes *only* to Twitter

!tell sgreger, Re: Savemy.news: I was actually chatting with Ben Welsh last week and had added his tool at the /archival_copy page and added an archive section to /Indieweb_for_Journalism. Thanks for adding it to /PASTA as well.

[chrisaldrich]: Keep me posted. I'm going to try to look at some of the issues over the coming days in between hiding from family and Black Friday deals
#
[chrisaldrich]
I've seen a lot of people grousing about the PressThis bookmarklet exclusion. Does it affect the Indieweb versions? I haven't tested it yet myself.
