instead I decided to do a collected quotes microcast using Amazon Polly ๐Ÿ™‚ Though I would really like to see if I can build a ppodcast out of say a wordpress category

Good morning IndieWeb. Back from a week of mostly offline activity.

!tell kevinmarks I'm not sure why an established podcast person would want to try tryca.st for a single series. Maybe if I were wanting to start something new, but even then if I hae all the kit and experience here, what do I get for my money?

What I liked about tryca.st was the very easy recording of guests and giving back split audio with a track for each, recorded locally without codec glitch and net dropouts

That may be worthwhile, especially for multiple guests. I normally use Skype ior FaceTime, which do give odd glitches, with a mix-minus set-up. Local recording would, I hope eliminate that. But all I really want most of the time are separate tracks on which to work.

somewhat indie(web), I am working on a versioned triple store
#
amz3
that works like git
#
amz3
that is with branches
#
amz3
that you can pull and push (like git)
JohnBeales joined the channel
#
sknebel
right, saw you talking about that in #swig. are you actually using git, or just a similar model?
#
amz3
just similar model
#
amz3
my primary usecase is to replace the use of git to store bigger than ram tabular data while having the same workflow as git
Loqi joined the channel
#
amz3
so it's not a "relational" use case but the graph aspect of triple stores will allow to link table headers together against ontologies that are well known like INSPIRE

every time this happens I consider what it would take to avoid this issue by having redundancy or other techniques, and then I decide it's worth the tradeoff to not add a ton of complexity in setting that up and maintaining it

the tradeoff being occasionally things like this happen and i'm offline for an hour

https://upspin.io looks interesting, good intro video by @rob_pike worth the whole view, but link jumps to the examples https://youtu.be/ENLWEfi0Tkg?t=1004 implications for indieweb, owning your data, etc. Will be interested to see how the key server stewardship evolves.

aaronpk++ for that explicit decision. the closer you try to get to 100% uptime, the more expensive (in all ways) it is.
#
Loqi
aaronpk has 545 karma in this channel (1571 overall)
#

even if you're down 1h per month, that's 99.9% uptime, which for us i vote is good enough

#
tantek
wait a minute, I though the exact opposite reasoning was used to justify automating cert renewal via Letsencrypt
#
tantek
(maybe this is more #indieweb-dev)
#
snarfed
tantek: iirc i wasn't part of that reasoning...but it's *way* harder and more effort to get from e.g. three 9s to four 9s uptime than to periodically manually renew an SSL cert
#
tantek
aaronpk was and this was his incident, so curious about his drawing the line between the two
#
aaronpk
I would also say it's harder to get from 3 to 4 9s vs setting up automated ssl cert renewal
#
tantek
and it wasn't about manually renewing, it was about setting up automation to renew
#
snarfed
3 to 4 9s is also way harder than setting up automation
#
aaronpk
one is a matter of some command line fiddling
#
snarfed
at least an order of magnitude harder, if not more
#
aaronpk
the other is rearchitecting and dealing with multiple providers, or more
#
snarfed
(actually i bet the difference is more like two orders of magnitude)
#
tantek
what amount of uptime difference is that?
#
tantek
(between 3 to 4 9s)
#
tantek
because that might be a decent retry threshold for various protocols
#
aaronpk
1 hr vs 4 minutes
#
snarfed
(per month)
#
tantek
that is, the assumption that indie web sites may *only* be expected to have 3 9s worth of uptime, anything dependent on requesting something from an indieweb site should be that permissive
#
tantek
so perhaps retry in 5 min, then an hour, then a day, then give up?
#
tantek
switching to #indieweb-dev

Hey, [snarfed], I am having a weeeeeird granary issue.
[cleverdevil] joined the channel
#

(Alternatively, it could be an Aperture issue for [aaronpk])
#
[cleverdevil]
I have a channel in Aperture called "Instagram" with a single feed, which is a granary.io feed for my Instagram account.
#
[cleverdevil]
I now have a bunch of items in the channel that are from people I do not follow, including several of which that are private.
#
aaronpk
this sounds familiar

[snarfed] #135 possible cache leak

#

Also, I just noticed the "&cache=false" fix, which I will now use.
#

#

#
[cleverdevil]
(That said, I would greatly prefer to have my own instance).
#
[cleverdevil]
(I just don't know much about best practices to deploying a node app to production).
#
aaronpk
huh I guess if im primarily accessing it *from* my laptop, that's probably good enough. especially since I have Indigenous for iOS
#
[cleverdevil]
My long-term goal is to have Together for the web, Evergreen for the desktop, and Indigenous for mobile.
