Hi snarfed

hi GWG!
#
@ChrisAldrich
Thanks @leolaporte & #TWiT for a great conversation about open platforms and why they're important. It includes egs of text messaging, social media, reservation systems and becomes a textbook set of cases for why the #IndieWeb movement is important. http://boffosocko.com/2018/03/07/this-week-in-tech-656-a-camel-with-your-name-on-it-twit-tv/

So I'm not doing that tweet-thing the way I was for the past 5 anymore. It is spammy and looks dumb. I'll try something more #indieweb later. For now, read my #rss at http://www.acdw.net/feed/ ! (If you want to, that is. I don't care.)

@_distrib Depends which bit of Instagram matters most, but Flickr’s still a thing. Also 500px or VSCO for more photo-y stuff. Alternatively @manton’s Sunlit app for full-on IndieWeb goodness.

what --if any -- are the plans for #indieweb now that Slack is terminating the IRC gateway? Bifurcated community? Declare one system the canonical commumity? Something else?
#
skippy
also, good day #indieweb.

[Aaron Parecki] Don't worry! The IndieWebCamp Slack bridge isn't going anywhere! That is a gateway I wrote that uses the Slack API directly. The thing they're shutting off is being able to connect to slack with an IRC client.

i'm having trouble parsing the representative h-card parsing instructions...
#
skippy
indiewebify.me says "A h-card was found on your site, but it’s not marked up as the representative h-card!"
#
skippy
that linked page is not making sense to me.

#
skippy

#
skippy
its not clear what i need to do to make indiewebify me recognize this as representative?
#
sknebel
skippy: are you looking at the homepage h-card test or the article one?
#
skippy
homepage
#
Zegnat
I think only root hcards count? Not at computer, hard to check.
#
sknebel
then I'd assume it's not looking at the one in your h-entry, but the one on the top level
#
skippy
i dont have a top-level h-card on this site.
#
sknebel
apologies, was looking at skippy.net
#
swentel
hmm your url doesn't match right ? skippy.is vs skippy.net
#
swentel
not sure if that's the problem though
#
skippy
both domains are mine. my indieweb identity should be skippy.net, though.
#
swentel
not sure then to be honest
#
sknebel
then do what indiewebify.me suggests, add a rel=me too
#
swentel
ah yeah
#
swentel
was going to say that
#
skippy
to the url? or in a new link somewhere?
#
swentel
my html is like that <a class="h-card" rel="me" href="http://realize.be">Kristof</a>
#
swentel
and that validates
#
skippy
that did it. thank you.

treora
I wonder, have any of you found nice solutions for source code publication and issue management?
#
treora
I'd like to move my projects from GitHub onto my own server. I just tried out Gitea (ex-Gogs), but it seems to mimic GitHub so exactly that it also copies its centralised approach: it presumes all people register on the same instance to host, fork and comment.
#
treora
So if anyone has tips for how to host my code and let people leave issues/comments/PRs using external identities (openid, indieauth, etc.), I'd be glad to hear!
#
[cleverdevil]
GitLab is great, but its very heavyweight.
#
treora
I tried that before, but it ate all my RAM and froze my VPS..
#
aaronpk
is a fan of gogs as well
#
treora
Also GitLab seems even more focussed on large organisations; while my goal is more like creating a single-user setup.
#
Loqi
[Kickball] awesome-selfhosted: This is a list of Free Software network services and web applications which can be hosted locally. Selfhosting is the process of locally hosting and managing applications instead of renting from SaaS providers.

[cleverdevil]: thanks for that link, appears there are more git viewers than I expected. Have not discovered any yet that seem more suitable than Gitea.. (http://klausdemo.lophus.org/klaus/ seems reasonable if one foregoes feedback altogether)
#
treora
Modifying Gitea may be the most attractive possibility so far.

#

It looks like we don't have a page for "Jekmention" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "Jekmention is ____", a sentence describing the term)

I know I've seen references to Jekmention somewhere, did it disappear?
#
