@mattl
If you are mad about Facebook check out Indieweb and POSSE. And Mastodon. And GNU social. And Pumpio. https://twitter.com/hongpong/status/975208264060362752

What is the difference? Posse, mastodon, gnusocial, pumpio...
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "difference" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "difference is ____", a sentence describing the term)

I'd like something simple to share messages with relatives (including attachments - .odt and photos)

MediaGoblin
#
Sveta
Share odt at mediagoblin? Share plain text messages at mediagoblin? Often they are reminders or IM style communication
#
mattl
I think you could make it handle ODT
#
Sveta
Tried it about a year ago and I use one of existing instances to share photos but not within family yet...
#
mattl
Probably already handles PDF
#
Sveta
Doesn't support pdf or odt right now.

Hahaha. Thanks. I was a little worried this morning after having written that it was too frustrated sounding.

Thanks Loqi. You are so much less creepy than Alexa
#
Loqi
you're welcome
#
Zegnat
eli_oat[m], nothing in that post was against anyone personaly, so I wouldn’t worry too much about otherwise criticising or sounded frustrated :)
#
sknebel
good morning!
#
sknebel
eli_oat[m]: that's an interesting balance always - a lot of software (indieweb or not) does a surprisingly bad job to provide errors that *both* have an easy to understand part and *also* provide debugging information

It is a good reminder of the UX is more important principle https://indieweb.org/principles
#
sebsel
I know there's no priority in the principles, but I still find it fascinating that 'Use visible data' is so high up, and indeed not 'UX is more important'.

petermolnar, you write (^^^) “even webmentions are only in W3C recommendation stage”. But surely there isn’t a stage after recommendation? That’s basically the definitive version.
#
Zegnat
(Fun thing about that image page on the wiki: you can check specs that are W3C recommendations under “File usage”!)
#
petermolnar
I'm, indeed, wrong there. Silly wording, though, I never realised "recommendation" =~ standard...
#
Zegnat
Not a problem petermolnar, but thought I’d clear that up :)
#
sknebel
still better than RFC ;)

@alexstamos
@can This kind of decentralization would create a lot more abuses of the kind everybody is upset about. It was the ability for people to transfer knowledge about their friends via API that caused this, the fix was increasing centralization by cutting down API functionality.
