# tantek_ I.e. to bridge existing internet ways of accessing things (gopher, wais) instead of insisting on HTTP, to bridge serving of any kind of document (PDF, Word, whatever) instead of insisting on HTML, and to be able to use any protocol (FTP, gopher whatever) to serve HTML instead of insisting it only be served over HTTP.
