↩️ I am good Greg. Just moved into a new city. Wow.. Indieweb looks highly relevant to what I call as self empowered Internet users. Would love to contribute any suggestion to get started?

↩️ What city? The first thing you do is focus on your own house and then start to help building the village. So for example instead of just having a @medium blog create your own website and then syndicate to other folks. In the #indieweb model… http://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/2018/04/20/gauthraj-what-citythe-first-thing-you-do-is-focus-on

Am I correct that Bridgy would not pick up on a tweeted @-reply that does not directly contain a Webmention-enabled URL (even if the tweet it replies to does)?
#
snarfed
jmac: no. backfeeding replies is maybe the single key reason bridgy exists :P
#
jmac
snarfed: I am relieved to hear that!

#
snarfed
curious what made you think bridgy didn't do that...?

As of this morning my in-production blog is dogfoodin the experimental webmention-receiving branch of my own blog software, e.g. http://fogknife.com/2018-03-14-how-i-use-omnifocus-ten-years-on.html#webmentions
#
jmac
It leans heavily on Bridgy (those facepiles are 100% Twitter) and picks up on likes, reposts, quotations, and mentions great. It's whiffing on replies. That's almost certainly on me.
#
jmac
For a moment I was wondering if I assumed too much about Bridgy but I'm glad to see it's happily just more for me to learn!

Also, Bridgy rocks, and my next post is gonna be about it and the rest of my exploratory IndieWeb adventures of the last two months.

thanks jmac!

snarfed: Well, I may be stuck on this example though: https://twitter.com/JmacDotOrg/status/942212007691943936 That's a tweet linking to an webmention-enabled URL, but when i feed it to bridgy it just doesn't seem to react to its replies at all.

heh. to be fair, reducing the legal attack surface is kinda understandable, even if they intend to treat everyone the same

dgold: has something changed?
#
dgold
singpolyma: Zuck goes to the hill, says "we want GDPR everywhere"
#
dgold
then his actual company moves everyone outside the eu out from under the protections offered by GDPR
#
singpolyma
sounds like business as usual for them
#
dgold
if he was remotely sincere, then this change wasn't necessary
snarfed joined the channel
#
dgold
he's a liar, his company is an extremist propaganda platform, and he should be prosecuted as such
#
singpolyma
Right, but he's the CEO of a large public company. So, automatically not sincere
#
dgold
anyway, this is OT

jmac: re that missing bridgy reply, looks like it's due to https://brid.gy/about#best+effort
#
snarfed
(the twitter search API we use to get replies is unreliable for anything over a week old, and that tweet and reply are from dec 2017)
#
jmac
That’s fair. I didn’t know about that, but it’s certainly in character for Twitter. Thank you for checking!
#
singpolyma
snarfed: hmm. If I know of a Tweet that replies to me, how hard would it be to have brid.gy manually gin up the page for that so I can webmention myself? Similar to the manual publish form, I suppose
#
singpolyma
oh, nice
#
singpolyma
should RTFM
#
snarfed
so in this case for jmac, he could manually send a wm from https://brid.gy/comment/twitter/JmacDotOrg/942212007691943936/942222641506717697

#

GWG, could you note some of that in /SmugMug?
#

the real question is what else is Oath looking to get rid of / close?
#
tantek
like what's the fate of Tumblr?
#

this is good quote from the SmugMug CEO: “Flickr has survived through thick-and-thin and is core to the entire fabric of the Internet.”
