My micropub endpoint is now hit when I “like” an article in instapaper. I have an applet setup on IFTTT that uses their webhook action. Exciting! Next up, auto posting instapaper highlights. #indieweb #micropub https://mcmanus.io/notes/2018/09/11/my-micropub-endpoint-is-now-hit-when-i-like-an-article-in-instapaper

Does anybody have a site that returns the webmention endpoint in a link header rather than in the HTML? (webmention.rocks is blocked on this network 😕)
friedcell, Lauven and edsu joined the channel

[keithjgrant], I think I specifically moved all of mine to HTML because some checkers weren’t looking at link headers yet :(

Hey snarfed! Your name came up briefly at XOXO with Paul O when we were talking about Mastodon and Bridgy Fed a bit (and we were easily getting confused). "if only snarfed were here."
#
snarfed
heh. fun! and apologies. bridgy fed is a woefully incomplete UX. might do more harm than good overall :/
#
gRegorLove
I honestly have barely looked at it, so it's mostly ignorance on my part :)

We had a really successful indieweb+mastodon meetup there on Friday. I'd guess about 30 people? I didn't even meet everyone and it was a busy coffeeshop. Good times.

[gregorlove] do you want to ping the xoxo instance with the link?
#
snarfed
hey [jgmac1106], re your web site chronically not sending wms...a very alternative fallback approach could be to have telegraph send all your wms
#
snarfed
you could do it automatically by installing the websub plugin or setting up superfeedr to do it
jackjamieson joined the channel
#
[jgmac1106]
I have websub plugged in...that might work...I think I am just too heavy and I timeout a lot....the header issue has gotten better
#
[jgmac1106]
though that just brings me one step closer to walking away from WordPress...sounds so tasty so often....but feel like I need to eat at the buffet I serve
#
snarfed
[jgmac1106]: hmm your site is consistently responding in <=1s for me right now, so i kinda doubt timeouts are your problem
#
[jgmac1106]
yeah and I can build the exact same set up on a subdomain and everything works....will check out trying to use telegraph and websub, superfeedreader
#
[jgmac1106]
[snarfed] yeah I think it is when I publish...that can take a bit of time. [jackjamieson] was helpign me diagnose...still haven't gotten past my failed curl test...thanks for the idea...have something new to try now
#
snarfed
[jgmac1106]: welcome! you'd basically follow https://telegraph.p3k.io/superfeedr , but use your onw site's websub or a superfeedr publisher feed instead of superfeedr tracker feed
#
[jgmac1106]
well this is so cool for so many other reasons as well....shoudl be in the WordPress guides, thx again
#
tantek__
is websub plumbing or is it a specific "brand name" for "real time updates"? I have mixed feelings about discussing websub in #indieweb vs #indieweb-dev
#
@jgmac1106
Need to add to the @wordpress #indieweb guides. Get webmentions from sites that do not automatically send webmentions. (http://jgregorymcverry.com/6590-2/)

#

[jgmac1106] I suspect that Stephen Downes ^^ has been following me pretty closely of late. Any ideas of how we can use this to IndieWeb for Education's benefit?
#
[chrisaldrich]
In fact, I'm now noticing that it looks like Downes is building his own implementation of Webmention from what I can see at https://www.downes.ca/cgi-bin/page.cgi?post=68577
#
dietricha
aaronpk: hey! iirc you mentioned you were doing some single-purpose ActivityPub implementations... got a link to anything I can check out?
#
aaronpk
Haven't published the source yet, but I do have it working which I used for the xoxo shuttle bot this weekend!
#
[schmarty]
shuttle bot was ActivityPub?
[jgmac1106] joined the channel
#
[jgmac1106]
[chrisaldrich] yes he said he is adding them watching what you and I did in #Edu522 he has funding for a MOOC and is going to run through gRSShoper which now supports webmentions
#
[jgmac1106]
That MOOC will attract a good chunk of people
#
aaronpk
[schmarty]: the tracker itself was just a pile of code I wrote, but I also made a bot you could follow from Mastodon
#
aaronpk
That was actually a separate project kind of like Bridgy Fed that only handles publishing posts, no replies yet
#
[schmarty]
ah, neat! "publishing" including a profile where people could follow the bot and get notifications of new posts?
#
aaronpk
I miiiight turn it into a service
#
aaronpk
I'd have to figure out a good way to handle replies first tho
#

aaronpk: ahh cool! lots of conversations w/ folks about extra-Mastodon uses of ActivityPub this last weekend...
#
aaronpk
heh, the only reason I did it was specifically because mastodon is popular and people are using it. The indieweb way of doing things is so much easier and more modular. but launching something and being able to say "since you're already using mastodon, just follow X" is compelling.
#
slvr
mastodon is pretty freakin neat
#
slvr
diaspora left me feeling pretty bleh, but this thing is sweet.
#
tantek__
that's an interesting contrast slvr - are there any particular aspects, UI, features that you think make the difference?
#
slvr
yes, being easily able to see content from other instances
#
tantek__
thought d* also supported remote follow
#
aaronpk
i would love to read a writeup comparing that aspect of both software. I think it's important to document that kind of thing as this space continues to evolve.
#
slvr
yeah, its hard to say how much of it was just network maturity and how much was luck.
#
aaronpk
i was never super familiar with the intricacies of the diaspora UX/UI, so it'd be great to learn more about that
#
slvr
I think the difference in target audience might have something to do with it too. diaspora seemed to target exfacebookers, and mastodon extwitterers. The twitterers are much more social.
#
slvr
like, trying to make friends actively.
#
slvr
I mean no one joined facebook to blog, but that's all the twitter people do all day.
#
aaronpk
i think you mean tweetstorm
#
slvr
Dunno, I'm pretty out of the loop. I'm trying to replace my personal use of reddit to share projects.
#
tantek__
that's a great goal slvr
#
@schmarty
Facebook's tweet blips, a post-web era, and oops wow this episode is late! It's your < 10min update on the #IndieWeb community! This Week in the IndieWeb audio edition for August 25th - 31st, 2018. https://martymcgui.re/2018/09/11/193037/

#

#
jacky
[schmarty]: do you post those on mastodon/ap-sites as well?
#
slvr
kinda, but getting hugged to death is a real concern
#

so for reddit I did my writeups there and put images on imgur.
#
