What is buffer
#
Loqi
Buffer is a tool for scheduling the publishing of posts to silos https://indieweb.org/Buffer
#
[asuh]
Interesting tool. Hopefully there will come a day where micro.blog or WordPress will have the same functionality as buffer with one or two plugins
#
[asuh]
My employer queried about buffer, which is where I first saw it just a while ago, and all I have to offer is a DIY setup with our WordPress blog. So close yet so far

@asuh, /SNAP adds a few pieces of functionality to WordPress that make it a bit closer to Buffer-like functionality iirc.

[jgmac1106] huh interesting. Is that not how glitch earns money?
#
[jgmac1106]
Just Beta for now. Open membership but our group would stay free
#
[jgmac1106]
Right now Glitch is just spending Trello money. I'd hate to know the monthly burn. Got vibe a round could be in future. They aren't seeking, bootstrapped for 18 years, but money often follows names
#
[jgmac1106]
But if we do get all the building blocks online wanted to know if we wanted a team
#
[jgmac1106]
The lead developer does want the indielogin docs thought that idea would be really cool
#
Zegnat
“the indielogin docs”?
#
[jgmac1106]
Just what ever would be best link for documentation if someone wanted to implement. It's probably on the wiki. I'll search

#
jgmac1106
yeah, but its a little tricky, basically MoFo wants me to be the bridge for when Thimble shuts down and migrates to Glitch, be a voice of assurance for educators....for an Organization that has literally burnt teachers soo many times, plus it Mozilla and a product is being handed off to a commercial company. even if I trust them, it opens me up to criticism from the more socialist advocates among Mozillians...
#
jgmac1106
Glitch wants me to advise them on rolling out learning tools and thinking about assessment, but sounded like an “ambassador” role. Mozilla gets me for free, open source free to world, companies charging get “one cup of coffee” and then my daily has to kick in
#
jgmac1106
Though Anil set up a helluva bar and food so I will give them a few more “cups of coffee"
#
jgmac1106
hQ is like across the street from Dead Rabbit….ohh wait you went to bday, missed that placed
#
jgmac1106
Did tell Anil, WTF, get your own domain and get off Medium….but was room full of Medium fans…and he is proably a paid advisor so may have to is my guess
#
[schmarty]
Hahaha did you ask him about custom domains for glitch projects???
#
Loqi
nice
#
[jgmac1106]
answered in Dev, aint really custom domain names more app hosting that gets a domain
#
[jgmac1106]
but everyone threw me some sideeye when I threw shade on Medium...people just feel it is the cleanest best designed writing space ever...and Ev means welll....world is easier when the ideas are concrete and the people abstract, but as you meet folks they become real and concepts abstract

[schmarty]
jgmac1106 that is really interesting. I wonder what they would think of POSSE to Medium, ensuring they at least have the canonical copy on their own site.
#
[schmarty]
I imagine folks see Medium as a publishing platform with its own audience
#
[jgmac1106]
Using import story works better than native POSSE, but it was a lot of, "I would write more if I just had the perfect ui" but now that I think about it pretty sure Anil is on the board or an advisor....might "have" to use it
#
[jgmac1106]
goes checks his Medium stats npw
#
jgmac1106
and in his email as clicked over: 950 views 657 reads this week…..forgot i was POSSEing all my notes as I needed a screen shot for the POSSE rate limit

add you Glitch projects to the IndieWeb team, my course template for example, had over 11k views, be curious of other IndieWeb projects, the remix I made of [kevinmarks] blog has like 12k views each only 4 remixes
#
sknebel
what is Glitch?
#
Loqi
Glitch (formerly Gomix, HyperDev before that) is a tool by Fog Creek Software to allow you to quickly prototype web applications in a complete IDE with built in version control, sharing, and more https://indieweb.org/Glitch
#
Zegnat
That’s outdated. Fog Creek renamed to just Glitch, I believe
[manton] joined the channel
#
[manton]
POSSE to Medium works really well. We support it natively in Micro.blog and it preserves all the HTML, photos, etc. (As such a long-time blogger, I'm sure Anil will eventually move his posts back to his own blog or start cross-posting them.)
snarfed joined the channel
#
jgmac1106
yeah my WP drops some images but that’s usally bc i wrap them in attribution, I just prefer the story importer…it was taking mapping of custom domains that made me feel medium lost their “open just enough” label
#
jgmac1106
I also would put them in the site-death deathpool if we did one, raised I think 130 million across three rounds, using a simple 10x expectation of an LP, that’s nort of a billion dollar valuation….no way you get there at $5 a month for a small percentage of your users, plenty of runaway maybe time for 3-4 more pivots, but it will die
#
jgmac1106
…oops 11k views was for “all projects” on our team… about 1-2k each, 3-4 remixes
#
jgmac1106
still a smart play for us as this will be what every coder dojo, girls who code, Mouse, and all the other c24all youth clubs will use
