sl007 looks like my trip tp credcon got all messed up with their travel voucher system, going to apply to go to NL on Monday
#
[jgmac1106]
fingers crossed, if I can split my travel budget and cover NL and Austin this year I will
#
sl007
cool - personally I have had a negative feeling about credcon because of the Facebook "Journalism Project" sponsor. However, nice, tell me if you need any help.
#
[jgmac1106]
yeah I wanted to go as it is part of my research, students and web credibility and many folk on the same credible web w3c community group....but I put little faith in technical solutions, metadata wont fix this
#
[jgmac1106]
found out I have a direct to schopiin and flights usually around 350-450, so should be doable, need to scrape up a few additional funds but should be doable..just need to leave enough in reserve for Austin
#
jeremycherfas
!tell [jgmac1106] Yikes. How did you dig that up? There's a lot more to the story, I can tell you (but not in writing. Another BlogTalk conference would be awesome.
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
[jgmac1106]
I am going through BlogTalk archives and bookmarking blog research came across your paper
#
jeremycherfas
Cool. Funny, because tonz in Nürnberg reminded me that we had me there -- 15 years ago.

Are there any services like a total feed of indieweb that anyone could send a post to? I wanna find people to follow and I want find people who will be interested in my rants about things.
#
kisik21
I heard of IndieNews, but I don't know what should be posted in there...
#
GWG
Discovery is always a problem in any community
#
aaronpk
there isn't really the concept of a "total feed of indieweb" since that could be the entire internet, but things like news.indieweb.org or indieweb.xyz are probably the right direction
#
aaronpk
news.indieweb.org is specifically to collect posts about the indieweb
#
aaronpk
but https://indieweb.xyz/ has tags for a bunch of different topics
#
GWG
aaronpk, if it is the year of the reader, maybe we should talk discovery of new content though
#
aaronpk
sebsel was working on that :)
#
kisik21
indieweb.xyz might be the thing I'm looking for! aaronpk++
#
kisik21
wait
#

aaronpk++
#
Loqi
aaronpk has 46 karma in this channel over the last year (306 in all channels)
#
kisik21
yeah, that's good
#
GWG
Basically, how do I find people to follow?
#
aaronpk
GWG in very practical terms, I've done that already by following people and seeing what they like and repost from other people
#
kisik21
GWG: find content aggregators like indieweb.xyz and post there. And follow people from there.
#
kisik21
Could be nice to filter this through some kind of personalized algorithms (obviously optional and open-source)
#
GWG
I was thinking it might be a good session for a future camp
#
kisik21
quite sad I can't attend any of these camps because I'm in Russia, and while domains there are cheap (less than $12/yr), trips to other countries are not...
#
donpdonp
how does indieweb.xyz determine a topic for a post?
#
GWG
We should plan the resurrection of Indiewebcamp Online
#
kisik21
Probably p-category. Use h-entries and microformats to influence this.
#
kisik21
Loqi is alive?!!
#
kisik21
who made Loqi say this?
#
sknebel
nobody
#
kisik21
how did Loqi answer then?

p-category
#

h-entries
#
kisik21
Probably
#
kisik21
sorry for spam
#

GWG i agree discovery needs more effort (same is true for mastodon)
#
sknebel
I think Loqi was responding to GWG

#

G'morning indie web
#
Loqi
[Vika] I feel I should just… you know… rewrite the whole thing. My Hugo theme feels just too hacky.
#
kisik21
question. How does my site look? does it looks like a collection of patches from years ago with some oversized stuff, no styling on some links and other things?
#
GWG
Haven't played at all with Mastodon, but it is problem I have all the time

kisik21: we're all suspecting it that Loqi is either sentient or aaronpk sometimes answers in it's name
#
petermolnar
gives Loqi sentience
#
aaronpk
I never manually control Loqi, that's a principle i've had since I launched him
#
petermolnar
in that case please don't let Loqi watch Terminator
#
petermolnar
(it never really was a true suspicion that you do anything manual with Loqi, I was only joking about that, the sentience part is more interesting anyway)

GWG on discovery. The important thing is to get your posts syndicated to a lot of different places.
#
bradenslen
There is not just one place or one way.
#
GWG
Well, that is people discovering me
#
GWG
I am looking to discover other people
#
kisik21
Webrings can be like this. But these are fairly random.
#
kisik21
By the way... some IndieWebRing members have dropped their webring links from pages. Why are they still members of the ring?
#
bradenslen
If I keep seeing they same domain listed or showing up everywhere I go I eventually check it out.
#
GWG
They broke the chain? Bad luck will follow
#
GWG
I still think it is a good topic of discussion
#
GWG
The..if you like aaronpk, you may like tantek...
#
kisik21
Hm.
#
kisik21
I got an idea.
#
aaronpk
did you watch seb's demo from nürnberg?
#
kisik21
Make an indieweb crawler! It will crawl content and log people and tags they use. And then it could see the similarities between topics via tags. If you like aaronpk and tantek, you'll probably like other people who write techy stuff about IndieWeb.
#
aaronpk
what is indiemap?
#
Loqi
indie map is a public IndieWeb social graph and dataset, made by Ryan Barrett and launched at IndieWeb Summit 2017 https://indieweb.org/indiemap
#
aaronpk
there's a big dataset you can pull from to start doing that already!
#
GWG
I think I will pass for now
#
GWG
Too many projects
#
GWG
Following is on the list
#
GWG
I have to do more with the parsing code for Microsub, fix a Micropub auth issue, etc
#
bradenslen
But it does relate directly to the list of places to syndicate to in the plugins
#
kisik21
and I need to rewrite my site because I realized I hate how it looks :c
#
Loqi
[Vika] Instead of writing code, I stare at the window, move my cursor and see how it leaps in the reflection… this is so mesmerizing… 🤤

!tell adaction in https://adactio.com/journal/14509 you mention you geotag your content - do you store the local timezone information as well? This is something I have trouble keeping up with, where and when locally something was created, especially with photos without geo data and potentially forgotten timezone swaps in them.
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next

#
petermolnar
and the question actually applies to everyone - how do you deal with timezones? :)
#
sknebel
not much is like once or twice a year. yeah, good question. I normally keep my DSLR in my home timezone and adjust afterwards in lightroom if I remember to do it, I guess my phone auto-adjusts. also try to occasionally photograph clocks just in case
#
sknebel
my site doesn't do anything with submitted geodata yet, so it doesn't look up timezones either
sebsel and strugee joined the channel
#
Zegnat
I’m updating my posting interface to also post the browser’s (which will basically always be my phone’s) local time. Phones generally auto adjust, as sknebel said, so hopefully that will cover things
#

re readers and discovery, yeah, I'm working on something. I really hope I'll get all the loops closed and launch some kind of a reader, but here's my blogpost about what I had at Nürnberg https://seblog.nl/2018/10/22/13/three-things-about-readers

#
kisik21
My country has most timezones in the world. We just mark the timezone if we want to refer to the specific time globally. Or use the time of our capital city. Guess what country I'm living in ^^
#
GWG
I don't use one yet though.
#
GWG
kisik21: Easter Island?
#
kisik21
Russia
#
GWG
kisik21: I was kidding. You said it earlier.

[[eddie]] I was chatting with [eli_oat] today and we were discussing IndieWebCamp online. We were thinking about it being a melding of synchronous and asynchronous. The thought was some of the intro presentations could be pre-recorded and released at the start...
