Even with the $5-$10 tickets for Summit the last few years, there was still higher no-show % than I would have expected. I forget the #, but it was around 30% I think.
#
gRegorLove
I don't know if aaronpk has analyzed/reported the no-show rate for /2018. Anecdotally it appeared a pretty high % showed up.

Hey, indieweb, how often do you test things in production?

... Don't really do a staging server for my website just break and fix
#
Zegnat
Same here. And I try to test locally first, but some stuff is just too hard to test locally so I go live and find out about breakage later

jgmac1106: you can have the best of both worlds with a separate staging/test site

I love the indiemap, I think ton of work already done... Though I like the idea of an opt-in search engine
#
[kevinmarks]
Some things are tricky to test with staging (eg sending webmentions)
#
kisik21
[jgmac1106]: I like it too! where could I opt in?
#
[jgmac1106]
Ha ha, doesn't exist, you are welcome to help build it. Especially need folks good with building blocks Need to cite indiemap in my scope post as it has almost everything
#
kisik21
I wanna someone to crawl my site and all of the stuff I wrote!
#
kisik21
The mere idea of it makes me excited

We need volunteers for alpha testing

[jgmac1106]
Won't be until after New Year...Interns from company will work on it with us to learn their system. Usually handle data streams waaay bigger but gonna build our search engine to learn
#
kisik21
jgmac1106: but just in case I hereby give you full permission to crawl my site for indexing, searching and related purposes! (btw anyone else can do it too, my site is robots.txt-free)
#
kisik21
already found it and read
#
kisik21
and it's totally cool!
#
kisik21
And I was just thinking of gathering that data and making a recommendation engine, but I don't have any experience with projects so grand
#
kisik21
but at least I could probably make a feed of posts tailored to categories you're liking most often with posts pulled out of a crawler database
#
kisik21
The whole thing with like posts - this data can be easily aggregated and used in a recommendation engine
#
kisik21
but I guess I'm not the first one to come up with that idea

jgmac1106 (and kisik21 etc): re search again, if you want opt-in indieweb-only search, you'll probably also want to check out / cite google custom site search, with a manually curated list of opted in indieweb site domains. hard to beat that for crawling, functionality, ease of use, etc.
#
kisik21
snarfed: is it implemented anywhere?
#
snarfed
kisik21: sure, tons of people and sites use google custom site search
#
kisik21
I meant "indieweb-wide search portal w/ google custom search"
#
kisik21
not just "custom search on your domain"
#
kisik21
I use lunr.js on my blog and I'm pretty satisfied with it!
#
snarfed
no, there's no indieweb search engine yet. and yes, there are lots of options for single site search, like lunr.js! those are great.
#
snarfed
but if you all wanted a search engine for *many* sites, that regularly re-crawls, that's a huge project if you try to do it yourself. i'd highly recomend something like google custom search instead. no sense in reinventing that wheel. https://developers.google.com/custom-search/

Hello, I am new here and am looking for help adding h-card meta to my site.
#
brandonkal
Would having multiple h-card elements work? My site design has a vCard like element on the main page, which could work but the url points to /about/ rather than the home page. So for that I could make another h-card in the footer.
#
kisik21
aaronpk: aperture and monocle don't see my new micropub endpoint. How to fix?
#
aaronpk
Monocle only discovers it when you log in so you'll have to log out and back in if you've changed anything
#
kisik21
no logout button in monocle... do I need to erase cookies?
snarfed joined the channel
#
brandonkal
do multiple h-cards make sense and should the url be the root domain or is /about/ okay?
#
kisik21
brandonkal: usually first h-card takes priority
#
brandonkal
so they are parsed as one object, so in the footer would be the best place to put it or does it only need to be on the homepage for webmention to work?
#
aaronpk
kisik21: ohh I must have lost the button in the last update. I think you can just visit /logout
#
kisik21
aaronpk: also, is Quill mp-syndicate-to command broken? I can syndicate from curl but not from Quill
#
kisik21
`curl https://fireburn.ru/cgi-bin/micropub.py -H $AUTH -d h=entry -d content=Syndicate -d mp-syndicate-to=https://brid.gy/publish/twitter` works, Quill with button doesn't.
#
kisik21
I guess that goes into #dev...
