I can't remember the exact state of things in browser extensions right now, but the other trick there is the site the extension is on might then have access to be able to trigger the comment form itself, making it so you could post on my site if I visit yours, which is obvs bad. conversely, some sites essentially block extensions via the new security policies.
#
brandonkal
aaronpk, for number 1 (leaks) the extension would only leak whether or not the user has such an extension (e.g. data-indieuser="true") rather than the HTML replacement approach of webactions. The design issue wouldn't be an issue as the form would match the site.

aaronpk, snarfed, not even close. Wikipedia has much LESS than we do. Compare https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook#Criticisms_and_controversies vs /Facebook#Criticism
#
aaronpk
I said the internet, not wikipedia :)
#
[tantek]
sure, you said "internet is doing a pretty good job of it" [collecting facebook criticism] - and no it is not. we have the most comprehensive collection on the internet, order of magnitude more than Wikipedia's collection.
#
[tantek]
unless there's some other larger collection you know of

Interestingly enough, https://indieweb.org/Facebook#Inflated_Content_Viewing_Statistics is missing from that Wikipedia page - I searched for many versions

(that's the criticism collection I just added)

Video views are 3 seconds on FB.
#

ok, I added "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Facebook" to the "See Also" section of /Facebook https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=54370&oldid=54365
#

I wonder if there's any way we can easily support alt-text on images? Instagram just added that as a feature and it's something I'd like to have.
#
[Rose]
(Currently when I send a photo to my blog via MicroPub I don't know of a way I can send alt-text. Though I may have missed something!)

#
jacky
it looks like micropub support it but not in the content you're expecting
#
jacky
that's unless you store the alt-text for a photo separately from its containing post

[Rose] We are about to ship a new version of the Micro.blog app for iOS that sends an "mp-photo-alt" parameter along with images to a Micropub endpoint, with a UI to add a text description to photos. Hopefully will be approved by Apple and out on Monday. The wiki has a summary of where this came from: https://indieweb.org/Micropub-brainstorming#Alternative_text_for_photos_in_form-encoded
#
[manton]
It's also possible via JSON as linked above by [sknebel].

now write a nice blogpost about it and we have day one of the december challenge covered :D
#
kisik21
wait, we have a december challenge?!
#
kisik21
Where's the link?! I wanna see it!
#
sknebel
What is Indieweb challenge?
#
Loqi
The IndieWeb Challenge is to collectively ship something IndieWeb-related (preferably benefiting the community, folks in addition to yourself) every day of December! https://indieweb.org/IndieWeb_Challenge
#
kisik21
cool!
#
kisik21
sknebel: the challenge is collective, that means that we only need to fill all the days, not for everyone to ship something like #100daysofindieweb?
#
kisik21
ok
#
kisik21
then I think I may be the first to start filling up the calendar!
#
sknebel
last years: https://indieweb.org/2017-12-indieweb-challenge - we missed 8 days, but some multiple people added something

#
[tantek]
To be clear, the IndieWeb challenge is for things made for the community that helps others, that others can use.
#
[tantek]
Like a collective advent calendar that everyone who wants contributes to, then everyone else can benefit from each square
#
[tantek]
For stuff for your own site/software, we have the IndieWeb Commitments - add yours to the list there and see if you can get it done / deployed / usable by yourself by Jan 1!
#
[tantek]
What are IndieWeb commitments?
#
Loqi
2019-01-01-commitments are implementation and launch commitments publicly made by the IndieWeb community to ship on their personal sites by 2019-01-01 00:00 local time https://indieweb.org/indieweb_commitments
#
[tantek]
If you don’t have a commitment, add & do one of those first, before the challenge.

It's an epic fail.

[tantek]: I plan on making my software public and open-source
snarfed joined the channel
#
kisik21
should I add it to the calendar already?
#
[tantek]
No. Calendar is for shipping, not plans
#
kisik21
Then I'll push it to a public repo and post. Right?
#
[tantek]
Shipping your software as open source would be a great addition to the calendar for sure
#
[tantek]
Add after shipping, that’s the key. It has to be ready and accessible for others to benefit from
