I'm wondering how I should consider "mentions" in the IndieWeb
mblaney joined the channel
#
jacky
it seems like it's like "for url X, return the Webmentions that references X"
#
mblaney
^thanks for the link aaronpk! hadn't checked dobrado.net in a while, and just noticed I covered the home page in random posts from my last run through on micropub.rocks :-/
#
KartikPrabhu
jacky: that sounds like a mention in general
#
jacky
KartikPrabhu: I'm looking for the terminology / experience that I'd give to someone who's just coming into the IndieWeb
#
jacky
versus the plumbing / dev speak we'd use
cjwillcock joined the channel
#
KartikPrabhu
well your description did sounds progamtic
#
KartikPrabhu
what is mention?
#
Loqi
A mention is a post which links to another post without explicitly being in response to it https://indieweb.org/mention
#
KartikPrabhu
"a post whick links to another post"
#
jacky
right; hence the first part of my sentence re: terminology
#
KartikPrabhu
which part of the terminology is problematic?
#
jacky
I wouldn't say problematic but I'm trying to reduce the number of "huh? what's that"s when talking about things
#
KartikPrabhu
I am sure people now know what "post" and "link" mean so "a post which links to another post" seems fine
#
aaronpk
mblaney: yeah lol! That's why I linked to the doc page instead
#
mblaney
thought that might be the reason :-)
#
mblaney
has too many websites

[Jacky_See] “Mention: Used if i’m talking about you, not to you”.
#
[Vincent]
Now I think about it, from that definition a Mention sounds like gossip lol.
#
[Vincent]
hmm that was meant for [Jacky_See] but slack had other ideas. sorry
#
[Vincent]
ok now slack is fighting me. I give up

lolol

Who is sloo7?
#
jgmac1106
this person https://indieweb.org/User:Sebastianlasse.de dkozel has been trying to organize adjacent IndieWeb events
#
jgmac1106
I don’t think IndieWeb week is happening still but maybe a smaller InideWeb meet up or ven an HWC during event would be great

What is IWC Vlissingen?
#

It looks like we don't have a page for "IWC Vlissingen" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "IWC Vlissingen is ____", a sentence describing the term)

I'll be there Thursday and Friday next week at the GNU Radio Hackfest

Maybe Hackspace Brussels has space for another event?
#
dkozel
Grabbing a breakout room at FOSDEM is usually very easy too
#
Zegnat
dkozel: there is a HWC group in Brussels (https://indieweb.org/Homebrew_Website_Club#Brussels) and their Twitter has been reawakened this year https://twitter.com/hwcbrussels
#
Zegnat
May be worth getting in touch with them :)
#
sl007
dkozel : https://indieweb.org/2019/Vlissingen ends up in Brussels
#
dkozel
sl007: Oh great! definitely worth updating the wiki with that info

#

Open Collective takes a 19% processing fee, that seems steep AF, most are 2.9-4.5% does it go to other open source stuff….like that is almosyt 1 dollar for every five
#
jgmac1106
ToS says only 5% but how is 0.95 5% of 5
#
jeremycherfas
A minimum?
#
sknebel
Open Collective takes 5 %
#
sknebel
the payment processor takes something too
#
jgmac1106
okay either way gonna do it but 19% doesn’t seem right
#
sknebel
and they almost always have a base fee - e.g. yes, Stripe has 2.9 % fee, but also a base of $0.3
#
sknebel
oh, and known is hosted by another org, which also takes a cut
sl007 and [davidmead] joined the channel
#
jgmac1106
okay, thx explains something….just saw a 19% margin and thought….wow good business model…get people to support good projects and take a massive chunk

I am planning to start a community in Paris
#
sl007
dkozel Yes, we are in the devroom "Decentralized Internet and Privacy" @ FOSDEM
#
mickael
Do you know if there is already active people there ?
#
jgmac1106
mickael meet jeremychafis
#
mickael
ok cool thanks :)
#
jgmac1106
oops jermeycharfis and there is a massive WordPress community in Rome, much of the work on ClassicPress centered there
#
jgmac1106
I am pretty well connected with the Mozilla Reps over Italy and can make some virtual intros
#
Zegnat
mickael, no people immediately come to mind. But there seem to be several people listing Paris as their timezone on https://indieweb.org/chat-names so that might be a start!
#
Zegnat
You could also put yourself on the list here, to advertise an interest: https://indieweb.org/Homebrew_Website_Club#More_cities_with_interest

There was some nostalgia over at another place yesterday, about Piosterous and the like which allowed you to blog by email. I've had a search for email to micropub, but not found anything obvious. I guess you could do it with IFTTT or Zapier.
