#[Rose]Are people getting replies to their things into Aperture and if so, how?

#aaronpkI know you don't, but if you use webmention.io, it has a feed of your mentions you can add to aperture.
#aaronpkAperture also has "api keys" that you can use to push messages into channels. That's actually how my site is set up, where my site can push notifications into aperture that way.
#aaronpkDoesn't Wordpress have a comments feed that shows all comments across the site? You could subscribe to that
#[Rose]I just wonder if replies to those comments will get syndicated back out correctly.
#[Rose]To start with I would like to capture any webmentions from micro.blog, which feels like it should be doable.
#[Rose](Though coming from elsewhere should be done too, but most come from micro.blog)
#aaronpkAh yeah it depends on what Wordpress puts as the url of the comments, which i suspect is not the right url
#[Rose]Probably not. But most of my comments are actually on micro.blog or Twitter anyway.
#[Rose]Hah, just owned a micro.blog reply! This is great!

#[frank]That's great Rose! I also figured out how microblog comments get back to my blog. So now I have Aaron replying through microblog on my site on an Instagram photo. What walled gardens?
#LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "everyone up to today" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "everyone up to today is ____", a sentence describing the term)

#[manton][schmarty] I had trouble following the WordPress complaints in that Twitter thread... Ironically, maybe it should've been a blog post. 🙂

#[manton]I don't often see WordPress listed on the "wrong side", so I wanted to understand his point, but some ideas are difficult to get across clearly in tweet form.
#[schmarty]i don't think it's quite the same but it sounds inline with a complaint i've heard from GWG and others that WordPress is moving further from "blogging" with each release in favor of trying to be a more generic CMS, maybe a flashier one.

#[jgmac1106]He also meant the WordPress.com ad network.
#[jgmac1106]Jetpack keeps a shadow profile like you and sells to third party ad networks
#[jgmac1106]But the turn away from blogging to images...a bit biased in perspective but maybe that is where humanity is heading. Words only dominant last 2-3 hundred years

#GWGMy complaint is a business focus and an ignoring of other use cases
#[Rose]Is there a way to subscribe to a feed that requires authentication with a reader?
#[Rose]Well for the time being I'm building a Zapier zap to handle it, because anyone can see these mentions anyway
#sknebelsince you run your own reader (right?), you could probably relatively easily make a locally running "proxy" - a php file that just your reader can access and that just fetches the feed and returns it?
#[Rose]I definitely could, but it's nearly 10pm and I haven't packed for tomorrow yet 😛
#[Rose]And now I have Zapier polling my micro.blog mentions feed, with auth, and posting it via micro.pub
#[Rose]So between that, and a few granary feeds, I've got a lot of my mentions in my reader now

#[manton]Speaking of Micro.blog and the IndieWeb... I launched a feature today to make it easier to follow blogs on Micro.blog even if the author has not registered on Micro.blog. Basically turns Micro.blog into a more general-purpose feed reader, with some limitations. https://www.manton.org/2019/05/16/following-other-blogs.html

#[manton][frank] I've noticed a couple times it doesn't find the RSS feed too. If you have an example site, let me know and I'll take a closer look so I can improve the auto-detection.
#[frank]Thanks [manton]. One of the sites I checked was onedaycompany.nl. It doesn’t get found. But most of the others I checked do so great work!
#[manton]Looks like that redirects to HTTPS and then redirects to www... Micro.blog doesn't follow more than a couple redirects, so I wonder if it's giving up too early. I'll take a closer look.
#GWG[manton]: I saw that issue pop up on the jsonfeed plugin. I will take care of it

#[cleverdevil]Very exciting addition, @manton! What a great idea.
#[cleverdevil]Before you know it, Micro.blog will be a full-featured Microsub service ;)
#[manton]It's getting there! I plan to add search/follow to Micro.blog's Microsub implementation, but I wasn't sure if that was supported everywhere. Looks like it's in Together but not Monocle, right?
#[cleverdevil]It is in Together, and last I checked not in Monocle (though it is in Aperture’s console).
#[cleverdevil][manton] with this new feature, can Micro.blog users reply to a domain and have it send a webmention?
#[manton][cleverdevil] Yes. However, I noticed a bug with that today when the username was at the beginning of a post. I'm working on a fix.
#[manton]It is supposed to allow, e.g. "@cleverdevil.io Hello!" to send the Webmention.
#[cleverdevil]Very cool. For externally hosted users, I wonder if it might be good for you to allow people to just “claim” their domain on the platform, and have that end up being their username.
#[manton]Absolutely. I think if your Micro.blog account has already verified that domain name (with a rel link) then it should automatically merge them, sort of. But it doesn't do that yet.

#[manton]So @cleverdevil.io would just become an alias for your Micro.blog username, and could be used interchangeably.
