been useful, so: "Actually, they do make progress and require multiple interoperable implementations before they declare a spec ready"
#
sknebel
telling someone who is clearly speculating and assuming the worst (while commenting in a channel on IRC network thats already making use of the results of their work) that they are wrong is not an insult. If you guess random things about others, you gotta accept that you might be wrong. It's cheap to make random assumptions, so it's unfair to expect others to go dig out evidence before challenging them. But a bit more detail would have

good night

#

they do have very nice implementation reports https://ircv3.net/software/clients

there's only so far that can go without scrolling off the screen

weird criticism since we don't have a "functional" test suite for mf2 parsers either :P
#
aaronpk
tantek: making assumptions about another community with no evidence to back it up strikes me as inappropriate too (especially because the evidence that refutes the assumption is actually there if you go look for it)
#
aaronpk
any further discussion of this should probably happen in #indieweb-meta

https://ethanmarcotte.com's design is very calming - it's like reading a book on an oak desk in a semi-urban environment (lol)

Hello folks! Mikaela[meow] introduced me to this project and I'm working on revamping my existing website using the indieweb suggestions.
#
sknebel
welcome!
#
dhanesh95
I have a question though - Is it necessary to add my name to the h-card? The current design I have may get a bit messed up if I add my name to the <a> tag.
#
dhanesh95
sknebel: Thanks! :D
#
sknebel
having the name in there is certainly good practice - you don't have a name at all currently on your site? (it doesn't have to be the same <a> tag)
#
dhanesh95
Ohh I do. My name is in the title itself.
#
sknebel
what's your site?
#
jgmac1106
Mikaela is awesome!! welcome
#
dhanesh95
It still doesn't have the changes. I'm working on it right now.
#
dhanesh95
jgmac1106: Thanks! :D

dhanesh95: let's take the markup talk to #indieweb-dev

jacky Ethan is great. Him bringing “responsive design” to the forefront can’t be understated.

anyone who cites that diverse number of sources and weaves into a narrative has my respect as an author and philosopher as well

his gif game is strong too 🙂

haven’t watched the talk…just digging through the bibliography still, but strong gif game and smart…I am all in

I was lucky enough to see him speak right as they were launching the Boston Globe as a responsive site. Immediately was convinced it was the future. Wound up ending a partnership over it. They wanted to keep selling separate jquery mobile sites and I was ready to pivot to selling value of responsive redesigns. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Has anyone else thought about syndicating to a telegram channel? Could be fun

I just ran across an interesting site called Pravatar that generates random CC0 images for one's avatar: https://pravatar.cc/
#
chrisaldrich
what is Gravatar?
#
Loqi
Gravatar is a silo service to host a profile photo (avatar) for e-mail addresses https://indieweb.org/gravatar
#
jacky
chrisaldrich++ nice find
#
Loqi
chrisaldrich has 18 karma in this channel over the last year (42 in all channels)
#
aaronpk
hmm, cc0 does not imply model release
#
aaronpk
probably doesn't matter for a personal site, but on a company site you'd still need a model release from the people whose faces you're using
#
aaronpk
I also don't see any mention of where the images actually come from?
#
chrisaldrich
And some of them are definitely models... I came across one of Ronald Reagan too...
#
aaronpk
Is that old enough for the copyright on the photo to have expired? I can't keep track of how long US copyright lasts for anymore. Even still you'd need the individual's permission
#
chrisaldrich
There's a few related GitHub repositories with similar functionalities: https://github.com/search?q=pravatar&ref=opensearch
#
chrisaldrich
so ostensibly one could replace the images and put in one's own.
#
aaronpk
hm there are some children in the photos too which means you need their parents' permission
#
aaronpk
now if these are entirely computer generated images and not actual photos that would be interesting
#
aaronpk
but yeah I don't trust this enough to use it
#
chrisaldrich
decides to go back to using http://heygirl.io/

chalk it all up to /fun ...
