Another participant has shared that they re-read the first page of http://www.george-orwell.org/1984/0.html and observed that the main character (Winston) has more effective daily privacy than "us" (e.g. a typical city resident) today. E.g. not continuous GPS/location monitoring etc.

And did not remember thinking that at all when they first read the book years ago

Question about bridgy fed. I'm considering hooking up my wordpress website to Mastodon with Bridgy Fed. Does this create a relationship with Mastodon where I could post from both a mastodon client and my website into the fediverse under the same account. Or is it strictly broadcasting from my website into the fediverse?

man I love this community... ask a question and the damn author HIMSELF shows up... haha
#
[snarfed]
well, bidirectional. replies, likes, boosts, and follow from mastodon also get sent back to your web site
#
jhsheridan
thanks for the clarification snarfed

The Hippocratic oath for tech individuals: the Tech Pledge. I invite you to read it and maybe you want to sign it. https://techpledge.org (the pledge was written by 150 people from 43 countries in 24 hours during Techfestival in Copenhagen last week, as part of the Copenhagen 150 think-tank. (I participated this year)

[tonz] I am skeptical about the Tech Pledge just as we were skeptical about TimBL's Contract With The Web per your post https://www.zylstra.org/blog/2019/07/what-is-the-contract-for-the-web-for/ β€” I'm definitely interested in contrasting the two though I'm not sure if it's on topic here per se? Might be for # dev (presuming it applies to people building tools & technology )

what is indieweb?
#
Loqi
The IndieWeb is a community of individual personal websites, connected by simple standards, based on the principles of owning your domain, using it as your primary identity, to publish on your own site (optionally syndicate elsewhere), and own your data https://indieweb.org/IndieWeb
