#[jgmac1106]They have an exhibit tomorrow so can't come but meeting with art director some time next week... Yeah. She had really neat ideas about how to display

#[Michael_Beckwitso just walls of monitors that pipe in RSS feeds from everyone’s respective sites? 😄
#[jgmac1106]Pretty much. we talked about also getting people to answer, "Why I publish" and remixing that with music, movie files or gifs navigating through sites... Who knows. Cool idea

#[tantek]RSS feeds are a way to make interesting sites instead look like walls of text all the same
#[Michael_Beckwiti’m still curious on how to possibly use RSS in new, unique ways in 2019
#[Michael_Beckwitbut really it’s just a list of items that you can display

#[jgmac1106]Good morning all, awake, gonna try to write some day one posts before heading back
#[jgmac1106]Today's hacking goal, remove the closing tags from head, header, and footer filer and move back to each file to allow me to customize, play with GitHub actions to see what else I can automate

#jamietanna[m]Morning all, hope IWC NYC🗽 is productive today!
#GWGYesterday, we were talking about storing descriptions in the photo file itself
#GWGSo I found some tools that do that on my phone

#[jgmac1106]GWG I am specifically gonna play with the GitHub actions ImgBot. Supposedly scans your repo, optimizes img... Ton of cool GitHub actions in marketplace
#[jgmac1106]sebsel yeah I think for my personal site I am leaning away from Kirby. For business site gonna use it so others can edit in panel
#[jgmac1106]Also working on a webmention badging platform with students that will use Kirby. For my personal site sticking with HTML and Known hybrid

#[Rose]Yesterday in between essay background reading I did some planning of the new theme I want to create for my blog, now I’m nearly half done on my essay and I want to code not write.
#[tantek]Thanks shokunin, snarfed. I need to re-assess the priorities of things in those lists (and for today, filter by hackability in hours not days)

#[jgmac1106]Tantek have you tried DokuWiki? Moving all my students there. The admin tax for getting mediawiki up and rolling with all plugins too damn high
#[tantek]Zero examples. Not a good sign. Good luck with it and LMK how it goes!
#glenn[m]Just to jump in here, I am currently rebuilding one of my sites in Dokuwiki (not finished yet though). I do know that the OpenWRT project - https://openwrt.org use it for their domain.
#ZegnatIn my relatively short experience with dokuwiki (running some D&D stuff on it) I found the onboarding of nontechnical people just as hard as with MediaWiki, and the relatively old feeling templates haven’t made that better. The only thing that I like with it over MediaWiki are the pretty-OK access controls. I can give different people different access level to campaign information.
#GWGSo, yesterday, we were talking about organizing media. I did a quick test. I found a few apps that allow you to save descriptions quickly in photo files. And I checked and my system does automatically store that.
#ZegnatInteresting GWG. My gut reaction would be to be very careful with that though. Chances are some CMS is going to run compression or resizing on a photo file and completely remove such data
#cambridgeport90[I don’t even know how to check for that data properly.
#[tantek]I think I'm going to deprioritize "Add to GCal: Google Calendar link" and instead publicly blog about Google's bugs when people complain about it not working, e.g. in Android Google Calendar app. Interestingly, if you have a Samsung, you also have a Samsung Calendar app which *does* handle the ICS just fine. It's only the Android Google Calendar app that fails (silently at that, it just crashes and goes back to the previous screen)
#[tonz]jgmac1106++ for the vid posting. Those captions are those automated? Could one automatically add them as transcript (improves accessibility, and facilitates people like me who are text oriented and find taking in vids hard to do / too slow)
#Loqijgmac1106 has 25 karma in this channel over the last year (110 in all channels)
#[jgmac1106]yeah I can add them I thought I saved it as a video file, I auto generated the captions, and then spent about a half hour editing
#[tonz]I regularly use the auto-transcripts of YT vids. Usually indeed takes quite a bit of cleaning. Esp interpunction, sentence end /start.
#[jgmac1106]darn...the video editing software I used doesn't l;et you download the caption file
#[tonz]wondering if there’s a tool to grab YT transcripts automatically / on the fly.
#ZegnatI think youtube-dl is able to grab both manual and auto subtitles/captions from videos, if you want to download them after Google has generated them
#[jgmac1106]well I mea transcribing have it record a recording
#[jgmac1106]i found the files local on my computer...what file extension does a caption use?

#[arush]Today's project ended up being working on fixes for the Indieweb Publisher theme to make it more accessible. I'm using it on my sites and need to fix it for myself, so might as well pass those on for everyone.

#[jgmac1106]he added a button called snap it, it creates an image tag in the page using a data url you can right click, view it if you want, save it to your computer
#GWGHe did not finish making it a micropub client as was his goal
#[jgmac1106]'I am half way to putting in a micropub clitent
#GWGFirst, he had difficulty figuring out what to do, so he braindumped ideas about events
#GWGHe added notes on better support for invitations and who is attendding an event in the brainstorming section, working backward from what it would look like when it reached twitter
#GWGConsidering adding in the next iteration fun icons
#[tantek]shokunin, instead of "partner with (entity)" think "interoperate with (standard)" and the community that drives it. Implementations != standards communities. "partner with" is bad framing as it leads to bizdev which tends to be closed by default rather than encouraging of openstandards
