@devonzuegelI'd love for a feature that allowed close friends to moderate your feed before it gets to you It's much less upsetting to see unwarranted rudeness directed at someone else. A close friend would know how to filter the worst of it on your behalf without as strong an emotional hit (twitter.com/_/status/1216429108474732545)
[davidmead]I feel these “name” quits are a doubled-edged sword sometimes. They seem to just go all in on another platform (Twitter, Instagram) or bow out of the web completely. This gives rise to “unofficial fan page” where most people will follow instead.
simons, sukil, awolf, [LewisCowles], xylanDiscord[m], swentel, KartikPrabhu, sgreger, nickodd, [fluffy], [schmarty], sp1ff1, omth, [jeffpaul] and [generativist] joined the channel; pino1 left the channel
[generativist]Good morning, folks. Obviously I'm going to comply but can I have a bit of background on why `robots.txt` disallows `Special:ActiveUsers` ?

[tantek][generativist] I have a vague recollection of maybe [benatwork] posting about this (using the Lucy football metaphor) many years ago but not sure how to find it
chrisaldrichIn particular, in thinking about Twitter and their drawbridge. They spent all their early days getting the service to stay up and stable while allowing outsiders to create UI, functionality, and a large portion of their product. Then they were able to destroy the value for outsiders and buy up some of that infrastructure for pennies on the dollar.
chrisaldrichIt's one thing for the kid that owns the kickball to break up the game by taking their ball home because they don't like the the rules, but generally they can't take the entirety of the game home and enjoy it without the other participants.
[generativist][chrisaldrich] that's what blew me up a bit today. I've been researching the progression of twitter et al. and it's impossible for me to think what I've been building won't just get bulldozed on a whim
chrisaldrich[generativist] I was watching a documentary last night and thinking about that moderation case for famous users who could use agents/managers/etc. to moderate their comments for them...
chrisaldrichI scribbled it into my IndieWeb notebook for future thought. It would be a nice feature for personal websites and could be an added reason for leaving social silos.
[generativist]yea that's sorta where I may be going now. mine was going to be a secondary layer for twitter but with their recent iOS update (3d mute/block) and labs annotation system, they're just going to do something meh-enough to make mine irrelevant
chrisaldrichThe IndieWeb definitely needs those sorts of functionality for future growth, so watch what they're doing closely. Might make for a great IndieWebCamp session.
chrisaldrichI know GWG was implementing vouch and a whitelist feature into webmentions for WordPress recently. Not sure if he's thought through the next few levels of what that might look like.
