static sites
#
GWG
After [tantek]'s comment earlier, how about displaying link previews appropriate to the post type of the URL being previewed?
#
gRegorLove
indiewebify.me: do we need the "level 1, 2, 3" etc.
#
[chrisaldrich]
GWG: which channel was that? I thought I was caught up.
#
GWG
[chrisaldrich]: The WordPress channel
#
maxwelljoslyn
I've seen some people doing previews of "where does this <a> tag take me", GWG/Tanket proposal seems like a natural extension when linking to indieweb'd sites
#
maxwelljoslyn
Tantek* sorry!
#
[chrisaldrich]
+1 to gRegorLove's idea
#
Salt[m]
1: static sites, 2: link previews, 3: /wiki/disc/read, 4: indiewebifyme levels

What are building blocks?
#
Loqi
Building blocks are key design-patterns, technologies, and methods for building and improving your independent website https://indieweb.org/building-blocks
#
maxwelljoslyn
Salt: we have pages like https://indieweb.org/Getting_Started linked from the front page which prominently features
#
maxwelljoslyn
services that non-developers can use to get involved
#
[chrisaldrich]
What is quick start?
#
Loqi
One of the quickest ways to start owning both your online identity and your own data in an IndieWeb friendly fashion is to choose a pre-existing platform that provides a variety of building blocks https://indieweb.org/Quick_Start

[Chris Aldrich] This is an interesting old thread. Could use some contemporary examples.

What is MicroDav?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "MicroDav" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "MicroDav is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
gRegorLove
jacky, Salt[m], maybe start with brainstorming section on https://indieweb.org/CardDAV
#
jacky
will do in a few
#
maxwelljoslyn
GWG what did you say about Microsub after I mentioned "a flag for suggeting that a post is best read on its orginal site"
#

There's a list of proposed extensions/issues

It looks like we don't have a page for "microdav" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "microdav is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
jacky
what is microdav
#
Loqi
CardDAV is a protocol for syncing contact information, typically from personal devices like phones to services or web servers, such as your own website https://indieweb.org/microdav
#
jacky
hmm, that's going to be a problem but that's okay (for now)

promise to keep servers up for three years
#
Zegnat
Wondering if we could add that to the indieweb Etherpad. Fair warning: if it is the plugin that I found, this will probably be more like the P2P platforms that we tested than like Zoom and its kind. Meaning that people with bad bandwidth or connections might be left wanting.
#
Zegnat
I *think* it is running this: https://github.com/ether/ep_webrtc

aaronpk, quote from a live video I'm watching, which the speaker observed is ironically dependent on YouTube: "We cannot rely on corporate platforms to facilitate our communications in a general strike"
#
jacky
I haven't but that's not what I was aiming for at all
#
jacky
I'm talking about bringing something like Vimeo / YouTube to my own site
#
jacky
_BUT_
#
jacky
this would be amazing for IWC Online tbh
#
[tantek]
jacky, YT is more than just playback
#
jacky
well just the player + "social" facets then
#
jacky
there's def a lot to it that's abstracted away for viewers
#
[tantek]
the "social" facets sound like Reader (Viewer?) features
#
jacky
and publishers
#
jacky
yeah they are! but I do want to bring some of them to my own site (vis a vis web actions)
#
[tantek]
nice, yes, totally agreed on the complementary nature of webactions and social reader features

it's an extra step beyond what I did at austin because this also makes posts on my website with the archived live video after the fact
#
aaronpk
right?
#
[tantek]
yes that's exactly the right thing
#
[tantek]
ok let me see if I can word a tweet-length post with all this
